With our offices located nearby I took 2 customers to D'Foreigner only to be embarrassed by my decision. We were welcomed kindly into the venue and seated promptly. From ordering drinks and our meals, the service was great however this is the end of our positive comments.
We ordered pasta and when the meals arrived, we had to ask for spoons and were not offered any cheeses. The food was warm but I think standing in the kitchen for a while. After completing our meals our plates sat in front of us for an extra long period. Clearing away the staff passed plates in front of us, not great practice.
Finally time to leave, as the bill didn't arrive I took liberty to approach the desk to pay. The reception was rude, the gentleman didn't speak, only grunted at me. I was paying on a corporate AMEX therefore I clearly wrote the total to end the transaction. I did not tip, it really didn't deserve one. The gentleman took to bill, check for a tip then glared at me and snarled.
I thought it was my imagination until we went to leave and he was glaring at my customers, didn't even open the door! It is not the first time I have heard negative things about this place in our office but I couldn't believe after spending over $250 on a Friday when the place was not busy at all that we would be treated like this. I vow never to return!
I have been a regular customer at D’Foreigner for a few years now and recently revisited the restaurant to explore the new menu. Because of my frequent visits to the Chatswood-based restaurant, the issue of parking is irrelevant for me, as I have memorised the steps to enter the undercover car park! For first timers it can be tricky, but you will become accustomed to the plentiful and secure visitor parking in no time.
We were greeted by one of the always-welcoming wait staff (and quite glad to get out of the cold!) One of the major positives of the establishment (besides the glorious Italian cuisine) is the ambience of the restaurant: the lighting wasn’t too dark but just bright enough for a comfortable setting.
When flipping through the new menu (which boasts an impressive array of choices), there were dishes that had been added to the former menu and others that had returned. For entrée, we had the Mussel Soup and warm bread with the appetising antipasto (the perfect antidote for winter!) For our mains, I chose the Veal Melenzane, my partner the Linguine Bisque, and for the children fish and chips and spaghetti bolognaise (available on the children’s menu). I must add that although the children’s menu has a limited variety, the majority of more “formal” dining establishments do not provide one so this made our lives much easier.
The mains arrived in generous time, not too soon (as though it had been heated in the microwave) and not too long either. The veal was delicious and cooked to perfection, the linguine an extremely fresh and delectable pasta in a light creamy scampi sauce, and the children thoroughly enjoyed their dishes (and finished their plates for once!). May I add that the chips are also made fresh on the premises and the kids loved the chunky-style cut.
I looked forward to the dessert as much as the mains, and my partner and I decided to share the very special Crepes Suzette, made in front of your very eyes. The children had the Trio di Gelato, 3 scoops of gelato that comes in flavours like pistachio, chocolate biscotti and praline.
As usual, D’Foreigner made our night a memorable one with its delicious Italian cuisine and great ambience within the restaurant. I highly recommend it as it is one of the best-kept secrets on the North Shore of Sydney.
Just been to the restaurant tonight for a birthday dinner, and I am now regretting every bit of it. Although the food was great, but the service was awful, it is the worst you can get for that amount of money. It is really a shame that the good food was destroyed by the bad service they deliver.
Our table was served by an old man who was rudely giving comments for near every dish we have ordered, and at the end he also gave a comment to us being "mean" when we didn't order any wine.
The best moment came when we asked them to take the birthday cake out, it was at that time we were informed by another staff saying there will be a $2pp cakage fee even though we already asked twice over the phone whether there was one and was told no.
If you are really looking for a restaurant to make your dinner like hell then D'Foreigner is the right place to be. I have experienced better service at McDonald's then there. I surely will not return to this restaurant again even if there are discount coupons, and I surely WILL NOT recommend this place to any of my family and friends.
Mind you, at the bottom of the bill says "Good food, Good coffee" but they have forgotten to mention about their "Bad services".
I attended a function at this neatly tucked away restaurant a couple of nights ago and I wish that I had come across it sooner. Being a function, I wasn't able to select dishes from the menu, but judging from what I was served, I am eager to taste the rest of the menu which I am sure will be just as delightful and fresh. I would recommend this restaurant for sure!
We found this restaurant through the entertainment book. My girlfriends and I thought this place was delightful. Not only was the food fresh, the service was excellent, the staff were very helpful and friendly.
The menu had a wide vareity of pastas, entree's, mains and desserts. I had grilled scampi for my entree, it was perfect not overcooked. Chicken Marechale was unbelievable tender and juicy. All my friends enjoyed their food just like I did. We will go back again very soon even without a discount.
We were introduced to D'Foreigner by friends last Saturday after returning from a European holiday the week before. The cuisine I would describe more as international than Italian, but that is to their credit because the menu offered a good variety and innovative selection to choose from, rather than the same old 6 or 7 items.
The staff were courteous and helpful, they took our coats and hung them up (just like in Europe) they were helpful in explaining some of the dishes and the service was friendly and unobtrusive. The food for all 4 of us was outstanding, fresh and very tasty every one was more than pleased and for the quality the prices were cheap.
I have eaten at other far more expensive and highly rated (by the media) restaurants and been totally dissatisfied with both quality and portions, not so here our expectations were exceeded in every way and we will go back and recommend this restaurant with out reservation.
A bonus for us was the warm and plush interior without having to tolerate the noise from other tables. This place was well patronised and we had a party of 6 young women celebrating a birthday on an adjoining table and we were able to carry out a conversation in normal speaking voice. Congratulations to the owners and staff on creating a wonderful experience.
D'Foreigner is the least Italian restaraunt you would ever go to, but I recommend you don't. The food is appallling, I am no chef but I don't cook anything at home that is as bad as the food we had here.
We took a risk on the caramalised olives and it didn't pay off. After having the back of my throat asaulted by the strong vinegar, candied garlic and candied chilli.
Mind you Chilli was misspelt on the menu (shouldn't have been a good sign). At least there was some garlic in there, unlike our garlic bread ???? I was looking forward to my clam pasta but I shouldn't of. Only half of the clams were anything more than shells and the dish had sand or grit throughout it. Good value at $26??? No!!!!
My girlfriend's meal was no better, chicken and asparagus pasta. With no asparagus in it !!! but it was full of tinned corn and cucumber ??? (not the best $22 ever spent). Then there is the service. I am not a big fan of standover tactics while you pay the bill!
Overall I would say if you are in Chatswood go to the food court at Westfield as you have a much better chance of getting decent food with some value for money.
The recently released McEurope burger is more Italian than anything served at D'Foreigner.
The place is not a professionally ran restaurant but operated informally by a family. One of the previous posts said it all, a giant TV screen with staffs and kids watching it is truly awful. We tried their natural oysters and also the pasta dishes which we judged were not that good.
The worst is the mussel soup looks like the mussels were not even cleaned enough. The service was bad as there was not enough staff and the lead waitress attitude was quite rude. Prices are not cheap either. There is no reasons for us to return to this place.
I accidentally found this website. I have had several meals there; every time the food was perfect and yes the service could be improved (our regular waiter is on holidays).
The natural oysters are unique and the Black pepper steak is beautiful, King Prawn bisque soup is better. I have never had a mussel soup that compares to theirs, it’s the bomb. The last visit I had a luscious supreme of Snapper in a tomato beurre blanc it was exemplary. My husband had the Rack of Lamb that had herbs and garlic somehow infused but without disturbing the succulent medium rare meat.
The best thing is you have the choice to only spend $30 for an enjoyable night out. Bread is made on premises. I love the smell of hot baked bread when it just comes out of the oven early for the evening. All of my friends agree with me that the food is very good. To be fair, which Western Style restaurant doesn’t charge cakage, it’s a service. You should not be allowed to bring your own food to a restaurant and you cannot take beer to a Pub.
We paid $1 for a refill hot water in a café shop.. We got charged $2 for a chilli sauce and $2 for tea (You couldn’t drink) or $2 for hot water and 50c per take away container in a Chinese restaurant. All of these are my personal opinion. Everyone is different, the thing I like, is maybe the thing you don't like. One must experience this unique food at such an affordable price, check it out for yourselves.
I went to D'Foreigner awhile ago for my birthday. I find the service extremely efficient, stuff were friendly and the food was amazing. I was told that the food was made fresh daily, and you can actually really tell. Def recommended.
