Overview
deepbluebistro, an upscale beachside hide away, has become one of the Eastern Beaches most popular restaurants by integrating Australian native produce with market fresh seafood. Be tempted by creative concepts such as their new Autumn menu and a six course Degustation Dinner. Each dish is matched with regional wines and tasting notes. deepblue offers innovative cocktails, a diverse well-priced menu, with daily specials in a welcoming alfresco environment that is only a 15 minute drive from the CBD and ten minutes from the airport!
Went here for a seafood lunch in a beach location. Should have avoided the oysters as I could actually smell them as the were placed on the table, tasted ok, definitely could have been fresher however. Salt and pepper squid was lovely, perfectly cooked, not rubbery and not floury. Mussels in a white wine and cream stock were also cooked to perfection.
The bread for which came out really late, we'd just about finished the dish, and it was still slightly frozen in the middle. Luckily we had an entertainment book voucher, but still wasn't really value for money.
Well do you pay for the beach views? One friend said that you can't see much of the beach at night! I shall use my friends (MT) quote "Bistro food for not so bistro prices"
I've tried the sea salt fries (nothing special) and garlic bread (slightly better than what you get from the supermarket), my entree pork was what I can get from the chinese roast shop (cost $17 but I would get a giant piece from the chinese shop and its the same thing) and my main course pork dish was ok, nothing special. The dessert was too strong (the chocolate was too thick for me) but others liked it.
Others in my party was disappointed too with the food.
The prices are expensive for what you get. On the positive side, the place is nicely decorated inside and there is an outside area. Service was good, always offering water and asking about drinks. Overall, the food is disappointing and expensive and me and my friends won't be back because of this reason.
We decided to go to Deep Blue for my girlfriends birthday today for lunch, in which all the family travelled from as far as the blue mountains to catch up. Having walked past this place numerous times when at the beach we were keen to try it out.
Let me say that from the get go, the service was terrible, rude and sloppy, bringing drinks not mixed right. On to the food, and after waiting for a good hour were treated once again by the sub standard staff just coming out and dropping plates of food in front of who ever without saying a thing and walking off leaving us to shuffle it around to the right person.
The food itself was less than good, with 50% of our table actually finishing their plates, very ordinary, dishes ranged from, salt and pepper squid (tasted like salt and thats it), linguini with mussels (dry as dry), tiger prawn linguini (could not even taste anything but the pungent herb through it), not good at all.
With a number of other good value restaurants and cafes in and around this excuse for a restaurant I would strongly recommend you go elsewhere before spending your money here. From review of other replies in this thread, perhaps, the dinner wait staff and chef are alot more switched on than the lunch staff, however, I certainly won't be going back to find out and recommend anyone dining in Coogee do the same.
The food was to die for.. loved the ocean trout tatare and the porkbelly entree. The baramundi was just cooked to perfection as was the salmon. The chef here obviously knows what he is doing. Will go back many times to eat this great food.
Great decor. Perfect beach location. We have been here a few times and the food has always been great, hats off to the chef's. Surprised by a few reviews below in regards to food. Service, however, has always been below par. Slow, forgetful, and dishes served 5-10 minutes apart. We go back for the beautiful seafood dishes and atmosphere.
My boyfriend and I ate here on his birthday. Firstly be aware that apparently they are under 'new management' and when I rang up seemed unsure about the above voucher offer but decided to kindly honour it.
I ordered the salt and pepper soft shell crab for entree. However, there was no fusion of flavours that made this particular soft shell crab particularly memorable (basically bland, fried, a bit salty). For mains I ordered the ocean trout. This was divine, simply melt in the mouth and perfectly cooked. It had deep fried pork knuckle shavings to add to the variety of texture. My boyfriend ordered the sirloin steak again this was cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth!
Staff were warm and helpful. Decor and ambience was nice (dim lights, comfortable couches). They also have wonderful paintings which you can also purchase.

My Partner and I took his parent's from out of town here on Saturday night. It was wonderful! The food was great. We were all full when we left, so in my mind the sizes were great. Kangaroo was melt in your mouth. Prices were a little on the exy side, but it is a nice restaurant for a special occasion. And the position in Coogee is unsurpassable. Really great!
This is a place you want to go for special occasions only (so you don't mind the prices too much) Food, drinks, ambience and service are great (10 out of 10) for dinner. You get a feeling prices are excessive when comparing to the other options in the area but I guess it is okay for the quality of the chef.
Visited again just recently taking friends from Melbourne. We hadn't booked so sat outside under heaters and enjoyed entree and the great view until a table became available inside. The interiors of this place are great. The food was equally good. I had the kingfish which was the best I've had ever, hubby had the kangaroo tartare which he said was excellent. Highly recommend this one!
Went here for breakfast as a closer by cafe was too full. I was absolutely amazed by the cosiness of this place, not to mention how friendly the staff were. They even have blankets on each outside chair, if you get a bit chilly! Food was delish! Will definitely become regulars of this one!!
We offer a mixture of great ways to start your day. Whether it be a light muesli or toast, blueberry ricotta hotcakes and the Deep Blue Big breakfast which includes coffee. don't forget the great ocean views!!
