Right in the heart of cosmopolitan Newtown, Steve & Maria Martalas, both first generation children of migrant Greek families, have put that old school touch back into a traditional "Fish n Chip" takeaway.

Open for breakfast and staying open late on the busier nights, Dean's Diner is great for a burger after seeing a band at "The Sando", or after enjoying a drink at The Bank Hotel.

Have been to Deans Diner with my partner 7+ times now, and have never been let down. It is exactly the sort of place we like, relaxed, friendly, BYO, open-all-hours. We usually go here after a few round of drinks and pinball at the Sandringham next door.

Firstly, the menu is overwhelming but basically depends on how you like your burger. Some are standards and some are quite different, or you can order a custom-made one.

I usually get the Cat Stevens (haloumi) burger that comes with tzatziki but to which I also add chilli sauce. I also rate the Lamb of God, Dixie Chicks, and The Porker (all with chilli sauce added).

My partner usually gets the The King but I think I may have converted him to my haloumi burger, they are just so damn delicious.

We are Always greeted with a smile, in fact these are probably the happiest diner-workers I've ever come across (how could you not be happy when your burgers taste that good?), and they bring the burgers out to us even though they are really just a take away joint and I would fully expect to collect our meals from the counter.

Of course, what are burgers without chips. Luckily the chips here are delicious. Not the best, but pretty darn awesome, always hot, with heaps of chicken salt. (I don't consider a chip 'great' unless it is an actual handcut potato chip, unfortunately, most places, including flash restaurants, serve the frozen powder-type chips).

Forget getting a crusty kebab on the way home, pop into Deans for a Real meal!

Awesome customer service, funky decor and a creative menu of good old delights you crave. Our burgers though were alittle dry and bland.

It was busy, though my other local becomes busy too and they churn out a tastier burger.

Shredded iceberg lettuce is a letdown for such imaginative choices. Our burgers needed more wow factor to match the reviews. Just alittle more seasoning, sauce and the meat pattie could have been more succulent with some flavour.

Unreal burgers, always the same great quality. Its worth visiting just to be amazed by the burger names on the menu, so much fun! Great value and Steve and Maria provide the friendliest family service you can possibly get. You might be lucky enough to meet Dean too.

If you like a good old fashioned burger then this is your place. Its fantastic. Love what they have done to the place. The menu is also fun and impressive. We had the Fantasy burger which was very satisfying indeed. Will definitely be returning again and again.

I love Dean's Diner, especially for a good start or a great finish to a big night out. The staff are always extra friendly and the food is always quick, tasty and filling.

My son and I visit Dean's Diner every Thursday night for "Burger Night". Everything is made and tastes exactly how a burger and milkshake tasted when I was a kid! Great food, conveniently located and smiling friendly faces who remember you (and your order!) make this cafe/takeaway one that's hard to beat.

Great little takeaway with some great grek twists to the aussie burger. A must try is the Greek burger with taziki and haloumi and the lamb souvlaki is fantastic.
Service is great too, even at 2 am when the place is packed. Will be back again!
