Food is dated and variable. A visit last night was disappointing. Steak Diane plainly bad. Sauce thickened with corn starch and bearing little resemblance to the original. My 18 years old son said it was not worth eating. A fine spot for the elderly.
Scammer! Watch out! False advertising! I ordered the Gnocci which was on the menu under entrees for $20.00 and my date ordered a pasta special for $22.00. When the bill came, they charged us $27.00 for the gnocci and $30.00 for the special. We ordered an entree to start with. They claimed that since we ordered an entree the other items we ordered became main courses and they changed the price even though it was not indicated on the menu or mentioned when ordering. I feel a little cheated.
I have been to Darcy's a number of times and all those times the food is excellent. Service is impeccable. Wine collection is remarkable. It is the perfect place to be if you are looking for a relaxing evening with someone special.
I'm a Yank. Darcys is outstanding. They remember who I am each year I come including my favourite drink and table. The gnocchi are the best I ever had. I dine alone and their attention to my needs is outstanding. I do suppose a cane and age help.
I didn't mind this restaurant but it didn't have the factor for me. I had the truffle pasta to begin with but I couldn't taste the truffles. I had fish which was lovely, but the vegetables served up are the same ones given to everyone (a bit school cafeteria like). Service was fine.
Well - a good reputation certainly does not count for everything - I found average food, poor service - the waiter brought the wrong wine, served it and then tried to hide the bottle - and charged us for the more expensive one that we did not order....I like dining out - but felt like I had returned to the 70's and should have been weaing a corduroy suit and ordered carpetbag steak....
The service is impeccable. You are made to feel as if you are the only people in the restaurant. The food is rustic Italian. It is authentic but could do with a slight re-vamp, and maybe a little less cream.
Overall Darcys was a fantastic experience and I would not hesitate in bringing friends, a date, or business associates here at any time.
This restaurant was excellent -- the food was prepared and cooked very well, the quality of the meat was excellent, and the size of the portions were huge for a first-class restaurant. My dinner party struggled to finish 3 courses, but we kept eating because it was so good!
Perhaps the best, and most unique, feature is the ambience - the resaturant is very quiet and you don't need to raise your voice to talk to the person next to you, like in most other Sydney restaurants.
The service was always available and cheerful, but not intrusive. And the wine list is very funky! I'll definitely go back here for both a date or a group dinner.
What can I say? How would you like some old fashioned service that makes you feel like the most important person in the restaurant? If that is what you want and more, go straight to D'arcy's. From the moment we stepped in the door, it was magic. The service, the food, the ambience, there is not one thing that I could fault this restaurant on, it was all just perfect, truly, just perfect. To top it all off, I got a pleasant surprise when the bill came, exceptional food at a fantastic price.
The Matre'D was the most charmimg man, by the end of the night I felt like I had known him all my life, and that I was one of his 'special customers' ( and this was our first time at this restaurant ). I just cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you are tired of restaurants that claim to be fine dining but are far from it except the price, treat yourself to how it should be. Dine here. You will not be dissapointed.
We happened to choose a night that Russell Crowe was there. We were treated like second class citizens, having to ask several times for everything whilst they fussed over their celebrity. We were finally given the wine list after our starters, and our mains eventually turned up by 10pm. I'm sure it's a very good restaurant under normal circumstances but I would recommend calling 1st to find out if they have anyone famous joining them!
