Overview
A new benchmark in Indian fine dining has been reached. Darbar brings you India on a plate. Darbar's perfect surroundings of sandstone interior is the best Indian restaurant in Sydney. Darbar offers business lunches, birthday party specials, special function room for over 100 guests and is a perfect place for business events, screenings and parties.
A great place to take your time, I made the mistake of going hard on the entree. The mains were delicious and plentiful.... unfortunately I was full. But a great venue for group bookings of 8 or more.
We visit Darbar regularly ever since it has been opened. All our family meeting and functions have been booked at Darbar, Darbar has steped up every single time we come to the restaurant on that note the service and food has come a long way from what it used to be. Lovely smilling waiters and very accommodative to your needs.
Food has always been good especially Darbar chat, ck-65 and stuffed egg plant curry is to die for. The atmosphere here can get noisy and loud on the weekends but I guess that's what happens if the restaurant is packed. Great setting and lovely soft music played, we throughly enjoy ourselves coming to Darbar. Keep up the good work Darbar.
Wow, what a great location. And a lovely atmosphere to have an Indian meal. However, the food was very, very average. Chicken Tikka and the Lamb Chop entree which were both advertised as being cooked in the Tandoor oven didn't taste that great because of the huge covering of unnecessary sauce. Not the best.
Then the Chicken Biryani and Lamb Tawa curry for mains were totally over cooked and not worth eating. Didn't stay for desserts. What a shame. The waiters were lovely, and they don't scratch the number on the entertainment card so you'll come back, but I don't think we'll bother.
I've been here 3 times now and can say it's probably my favourite indian restaurant in the area. The food was rich and authentic and the service was fantastic, very attentive staff who even offered to package up our leftover food to take away. The vegie samosas are delicious and delicate. I'm yet to try the masala dosa but that's next on my list. What really sets it apart is the decor, sandstone, candle-lit and cave-like. Sure it would be great if it were byo but there was a larger choice of less expensive wines, I found a great red for $22. Highly recommended!
Darbar has become our favourite restaurant the food is sensational, the ambience and atmosphere is fantastic and love the décor, service is excellent and value fantastic especially the banquet. I would highly recommend this restaurant. I have been to the restaurant many times and have enjoyed it every time.
We had my mother's 50th here in the function room. We had a Bollywood thym on the night. The place was lit by candles and we all had great fun dancing for the Bollywood music we bought (the only thing I can point out is, the management weren't able to provide music for the functions downstairs).
The food was great as always, service fantastic. The food was on time even when the restaurant was packed. Thank you Darbar for making my mother's birthday a great success.
Only thing good at this rest was the ambience. We were a groupof 12 ppl. Food was not good neither was the service. Also they do not have much variety and its not worth the money. May be a large group made a difference.
Too many Indian eateries in Sydney appear willing to tone down the heat and spice in their food in order to appeal to a wider (though less adventurous) customer base.
Darbar doesn't, and that's why it's so good. The tastes are authentic, and slow-cooked care shines through in every dish I've tried. The restaurant area itself reminds me of the undercroft of an old church, and is so different in feel from the bustle of Glebe and its countless other restaurants that a meal there feels like a real escape.
I had dinner here about a month ago, and I'm a bit of an indian food snob after having better than restaurant quality meals cooked for me. I have to say this was the best Indian I've had in a long time. The Chicken 65 and Chicken Vindaloo were excellent, and even the tamarind sauce served with the pappadums tasted freshly prepared.
The service was excellent, and breads, entrees, mains & rice for 2, along with 4 beers and a tip came in at $110. I can't complain for this quality. Highly recommended!
Tasty food, though lamb in a wet curry dish was too tough. Naan was tiny, entree and rice servings seemed quite small for what is being charged. Service was great, surrounds are impressive.
