Overview
A new benchmark in Indian fine dining has been reached. Darbar brings you India on a plate. Darbar's perfect surroundings of sandstone interior is the best Indian restaurant in Sydney. Darbar offers business lunches, birthday party specials, special function room for over 100 guests and is a perfect place for business events, screenings and parties.
The food here has no taste at all, you cannot find the salt or chilli in any of the dishes. Spoiling the Indian food by completely changing the cuisine. Ambience is good. There are lot of other Indian restaurants better than this. So don't waste your money by visiting this.
The best Indian I've had in Sydney. The food is truly a delight; the combination of flavours is always well balanced, and the textures are wonderful. Take care not to order too much - the banquet will leave you very full.
The ginger lassi was disappointingly a little too vivid and muddled in flavour for my liking, but no other complaints. Service is generally very good.
The interior is wonderful, and the way the restaurant is secluded beneath street level is very inviting; it feels like a complete escape from the outside world. The large flatscreen TV seems out of place though, and is simply a distraction from the food.
It is really nice inside. The service is friendly. The food was better than expected after having 4 years ago not such a good experience. Still it's not the best I have visited in Sydney. Some dishes lacked flavour and spice. The mango lassi was outstanding. Would definitely go again if I wish a nice relaxed dinner.
The service was very good. They welcomed us with a smile. The environment was very cosy and warm. The food was just great. The waitresses were even greater. Every time making sure we had the best time possible. It’s just a great night out.
I don't like indian but have been back to Darbar 4 times this year. Chicken 65 is FAB as is most of the food. PLUS the room is very interesting. Superior quality Indian food that's authentic.
This is our favourite Indian in Sydney, it's even better that it's right around the corner from us. They always welcome us with a smile, whether we've booked or not. The room is beautiful if a bit noisy (the plasma that occasionally plays Bollywood movies is totally unnecessary, though).
The food is always excellent, fresh and well-spiced, and they remember how we like certain things. The wine list is good but it is BYO and we take full advantage of this. I don't know where other reviewers got their information that Darbar isn't BYO. It says they are on this website, and you can get a free bottle of wine with the Eatability special offer.
The service is usually good, but can get a bit patchy when they get busy, which is often, especially on weekends. Overall, we love this place and will continue to go as often as we can.
I booked on a Friday night for four. But when we arrived they did not have a table ready, though we weren't very fussed. Food was good if somewhat slow to arrive. The location is indeed nice and rather quiet for a busy Friday night.
This was not my first visit to Darbar. I liked this place very much on its first visit, the ambience is just awesome. The food was great and the service too. So I decide to take my other friends to that place. However the second visit to Darbar actually changed my thoughts about the place. The service was very bad. There was only one waitress on shift. She herself was confused. I had ordered for the Darbar Thali. The food this time was the worst food I had ever eaten. The tables were not even cleaned and set were the guests had eaten and had left long back.
Anyways I am revisiting this place cause once again to give it a try!!!
A great place to take your time, I made the mistake of going hard on the entree. The mains were delicious and plentiful.... unfortunately I was full. But a great venue for group bookings of 8 or more.
