This is a regular lunch spot for us being close to work. Cliff the owner always looks after us and although the menu doesn't change and the food is no feat of ingenuity, it is predictable to a tee.
The stand out at this place which gives it a ten on value is the wine list. There are some great wines that are below cost, yes you heard correct below cost. How does this occur, well quite simply he ages some of the wines and puts them on the list. Yet he still sells the wines for close to what you would pay for the current vintage.
I live around the Beverly Hills area, and dine at D to D quite regularly. Food - The menu rarely changes, even the specials board seems to be standard. Not a great choice of food, I usually stick with the D to D burger - nice burger, with good helping of fries.
Ambience - I like the look of D to D, it's very modern and fresh, so thumbs up for decor. However, it tends to get very noisy and can be quite cramped.
Service - Haven't had too many problems with service, staff are usually attentive, although I have seen a few of the waiters chatting behind the counter which is somewhat unprofessional.
Value - The D to D burger is good value (around $15), but some of the items are a bit on the expensive side.
The value for the stock food they produce at this cafe is just ridiculous. Service was pretty good. The furnishings are very plain and boring and the meals are something u can easily cook up in 10 minutes my own home taking over 45 minutes at D to D's.
I used to go here many years ago, after seeing a movie. Now that the cinemas have revamped we thought we would try it again. We made a booking for 6 people and still found they did not have a table prepared for us when we got there, no cutlery or even the tables together. So we shouldn't have bothered with the booking.
The food was really good and fairly good value. However, I was astounded when we were told they charge $3.50 per person corkage. Why bother being BYO? Just be a licensed restaurant if you don't want people to BYO. I think $3.50 at a cafe for lunch is too much for corkage. The only other thing was the staff were immature, talking about customers behind the counter.
I have been to this place numerous times and I can't complain at all about the food. There is a great variety of food here whether you are trying to eat cheap or get a good meal. The nazi goreng and the pasta are great value meals for just $15 and the ribs are a very generous portion for $25. Even if you just want to have a coffee and a dessert to catch up with someone, the pancakes are great value and absolutely delicious. Something for everyone here, and by far the stand out Australian restaurant in Beverly Hills
My husband and I went to the cafe just last Wednesday. We waited for 45 minutes for our meals until I asked how much longer and apparantly they said the receipt to the kitchen had run out and missed our order. I was very disappointed and ready to walk out until they promised to bring it out asap.
What a mistake, we waited a further 20 minutes for the meals to come out and did not eat until 10:30pm. The staff was busy drinking with companions which is very unprofessional and told the waitress to tell us one of the meals was free. It's a shame about this because they really do serve good food.
I would have thought the waitress who took our order would have noticed that we had not received our meals yet however there seems to be no communication with the kitchen. Yes, they were busy but with 3 waitresses they should have known better. Gordon Ramsay would have had a field day!! I'm definitely not in a hurry to go back!
I used to be a regular here in the 90's and occasionally go back for sentimental reasons. Each time I have been disappointed. The food is reheated and the staff are not very friendly. The menu is too big and I think they try and do too much and it just doesn't work. What a shame.
I enjoy Mcaine's overcooked potatoes and steamed veg in the comfort of my own home, in my pjs when it costs me next to nothing. I do not like it as a side to a poorly cooked and presented overpriced $25 stake.
My friend's food was late (30 mins and we complained 3 times), we got our entrees after the main (go figure) and the service was disappointing. If you like throwing money away go eat at D to D.
First timer, the other night. Really nice bruschetta, the grain fed meat was pretty good, great array of desserts, especially the dark chocolate brulee with berries and cream. Found it a bit on the exy side but nice food, good service. Definitely go back.
A very good place if taking someone out for a meal. The relatively better food and cake selection comes with higher prices. Then again, the place just had to be good to compete with the other two major Australian restaurants in Beverly Hills.
