Overview of The Cut

If you like your meat raw, like really raw as in smoked, then grab your carving knife and head straight down to the Cut Bar and Grill's classic Spanish-style charcuterie. Complete with carving trolley, and too-cool-for-school 'Dexter' carving knives, the restaurant cum deli carves freshly cured air-dried beef, Spanish jamón, salami and to-die-for prosciutto. Grab a tasting plate for starters.

My wife and I had a lovely dinner at The Cut. Yes it is expensive although the quality of the food and service makes it worthwhile.

Recently dinned here with my daughter and granddaugher as a special night out in Sydney. They were from Melbourne I was over from ChCh. I had the lamb, divine, my granddaugher had the Gnocci divine, my daugher had the chicken boring, again another restaurant that you have to purchase "sides" to go with the meal.

However the worst thing was the cheese, I ordered the cheese selection for dessert, the other 2 had also ordered desserts from the very limited and pricing selection. I did not read the menu correctly as it was a selection of cheeses at $9.00 per slice, yes per slice and if I got a slice of cheese from my cheesemonger that was the size of these I would have a fit.

Inadvertently I ended up with 6 slices, I nibbled on a couple before the realization dawned on me the cost. My bad as they say but very very overpriced and when can 1 person eat 6 slices of very rich cheeses so yep my bill had $54.00 for my desert! But I was also disappointed with the service.

We must have been sitting next to a very very important couple cause they had the Maître d fussing over them along with I think the Sommelier and on returning to our table the Sommelier nearly knocked my daughter over and did not even apologize. The cheese was my issue but when we mentioned to the waitress she just shrugged and said oh well, fair enough, so I decided to take the left over cheese back to our apartment, they wrapped it up but it had all been squished up together so we could not eat it later in the evening with our lovely aussie shiraz but never mind my bad but won't be visiting again.

The food was excellent, the wine was excellent, the service was arrogant. I'll have to think about whether the steak was worth again giving money to people who think they are that much better than me. I thought we were past this kind of service?

Utterly disappointed with the services of this restaurant. Rude and snooty managers. My pet hate is when restaurants who pride themselves in good steak overcook my steak. My medium rare Fillet came medium, and extemely dry.

We ordered the entree of quail, and saw the next table having the same dish 5 minutes later but their plate had an extra piece of quail and extra ornaments - obviously our dish was not completed correctly. Not impressed at all. I will not be returning.

Truly amazing steak. Yes, it's bloody expensive. ($163 for a couple). But the taste and service is 2nd to none.

Beautiful room and a good steak. Not as good as Rockpool though and that's where they fall short for the fact it is the same price. Staff let the whole place down, a bunch of backpackers in nice shirts. Pity. Worth a look but go to Rockpool first.

Absolutely excellent! Great comfortable setup in The rocks.

It is a modern steak house with great variety. Steak tartare, tuna ceviche and roasted quail were all amazing for starters. The big chunky T-Bone and the wagyu standing rib were good, but have had better. Then the desserts of chocolate mousse and apple pie were amazing, they looked that good you did not want to eat them. But when you did, yuuuuummmmmm!

Service was done well, being casual but 1st class. Prices were on the high side, but hey its what you expect for quality.

I've heard of customers having expectations for restaurants but whoever thought a restaurant would have expectations for their customers.

My bill was over $300 and management never gave me back my change (an amount in notes), they just assumed that the change was their tip even though I paid in cash. I am generally a tipper and have been to several 5 star restaurants and at least they have the courtesy to give me back the change before I give them a tip. That's such bad form!

Luckily the produce was fresh, good but not great quality. We ordered a large selection from the menu which included fish, scallops and cold and hot meats.
If you are looking for flavour, classy presentation, or value for money, this isn't the place. They rely on the freshness of the produce and might add some salt for taste.

The scallop dish was disappointing, only 2 scallops, half an artichoke, small veal sweetbread. The seat I was allocated was wet, and I'm glad I touched the seat with my hand to check before I sat down or my night would have been quite embarrassing.

Overall, I'm hesitant to recommend this restaurant to my international corporate clients or my friends and family, not because of the food but more because they don't respect their customers. This review will be published internationally.

I live in Sydney and have not heard about this place at all, and I thought I was a foodie and knew what was happening in Sydney. We did not look at the menu outside and were more attracted by the lamp and the interior which we could spy down the stairs. We did not expect the prices we were met with (they are high, but not unusual for the CBD) we were sat down by the charming host.

I have to admit though I think the sides and sauces are too expensive especially when you are paying premium prices for the steaks. Everything else was great, staff lovely, building and design beautiful, service attentive, wine list - I could have read it all day. My husband and I had a great time, and felt truly at home. We cannot wait to take some friends there.
