I am SriLankan, we wanted to have some really nice Hot SriLankan food, googled and found “The Curry Leaf”. So, I took my family for dinner on Saturday night, what pleasant people, great food, the Devil Chicken, Lamb, Goat and Fish Curry, Polos Curry (in the muttiya), Plain Rice, Yellow Rice and Buriyani, Pappadams. Sambol and Lunumiris to eat with Egg and Plain Hoppers now that was for Dinner, Then to finish off Wattalapan, Warraka, Meekiri and Honey, Fruit Salad (not the squashy stuff).

All in all 10/10 for Value for money, $ 20/= per person. Atmosphere good, the seating area was clean looking and bright. For me the only person whose food taste as good as this was my Attamma's food (not even my mother). I would go again today, but my wife says I will embarrass myself if I go two days in a row, but we will go again with some friends.

If you like value for money and taste of SriLankan food this is a great start. Keep up the great food “Curry Leaf”.

We had dinner on Saturday night. Excellent value, very friendly staff. Had the Best butter chicken ever. It was buffet and so many authentic Sri lankan dishes. It cost Only $20 per head. We will definitely go back again. Highly recommended.

First timers to this restaurant wife & I went for dinner, didn't know what to expect, had to ask. Great value for money. $20 head all you can eat. Dishes could be kept hotter rather than luke warm. Taste good, plenty of variety. Lots of people eating. Decor not good could do with a freshen up. Probably won't go back. Danero.

We went for the Sunday buffet and were pleasantly surprised by the improved service and quality of food. The decor is quote plain, but everything is clean. For $12.50 there are a number of choices and they tasted quite good. We would definitely come back for the buffet.

My wife and I ate dinner here last night, we decided to go after reading few reviews here that rated the food well which is what we care about, however, we were both disappointed. The food was average at best, the atmosphere depressing and service poor.

It was a buffet ($20 per head), this is less than we normally spend but would much prefer to spend more and have something authentic/fresh and tasty. The mains were salty and quite tasteless, we know good Sri Lankan (wife is Sri Lankan and a good cook herself). The buffet included dessert (Watalappan, Jackfruit and fruit salad), however, the Watalappan ran out quickly so we were stuck eating tinned Jackfruit and fruit salad. Yuck.

By then we were also trying to eat this in a very hot and stuffy environment since the waitress had turned off the air conditioner (it was only 8.30 pm or so), presumably this was to save money since it was still very hot and stuffy inside.
This restaurant is BYO. We just didn't realise that mean't bring your own Watalappan and Air Conditioner. Won't be returning.

UPDATE: I was told that there was buffet here and it is limited, 1 meat dish, 2 vege dishes plus condiments and papadums, but where else can you get all you can eat for $8.50! Food was better than my last encounter but the place is drab and very plain. The person at the counter asked me if I wanted water without me asking which is great. What a bargain for lunch!

12/7/08: The price is cheap. I had a lunch special which only cost $6 but, unfortunately, it didn't taste that good. The chicken curry was full of small bones which greatly reduced my enjoyment.

This is great if you are looking for some authentic Sri Lankan food, with Singhalees flavour. But be warned that the decor/ambience is nothing to shout about. Hei, who cares for decor if the food is great and value for money. I have been here a number of times taking overseas visitors.

Great little place. Such awesome value for money. Lovely service, but the food is the best dhal curry, spring rolls, potato curry, hoppers and katta sambal to die for(Its all just terrific, fresh and spicy). An absolute must for anyone who loves a fresh spicy feed.

Another restaurant we tried as it was featured in the Sri Lankan episode of Food Safari!! Very simple decor, family place with not much ambience (don't think there was even any music playing) but was what we expected. We were there on a Saturday for lunch and we had the lunch buffet which was something like $13 (can't remember exactly but whatever it was, it was good value).

Out of the buffet I tried maybe 80% of what was there - including a delicious mutton/lamb curry, fish curry (sweet and sour tasting), a dhal, plain basmati and saffron basmati rice, spinach salad with coconut, various accompaniments like yoghurt with mint/cucumber/vegies, chutneys, sambol, tiny dried fish, caramelised onion etc. It was all very tasty and fresh.

The owner was friendly, made sure we knew what was going on (I think all the other diners were regulars) and made sure we had water. It's very far from where we live but I'd like to make the trip back out there one day.
