When you sit back & think it is time to go home then you realise that your main meal hasn't arrived after 2.5 hours, you can't recommend a restaurant. I think the kitchen staff worked very hard but something was wrong. Gordon Ramsay would have a field day here!! Great venue, great wine, no service!
I’m sorry. I don’t normally get upset about restaurant reviews, but “” my opinion” s of 1 May is a worry! Service at Cucina has been excellent on each occasion, but I have observed one or two examples of staff not knowing in detail some of the dishes in this quite complicated menu. They aren’t pros yet, but to me there has never been the willful arrogance or disinterest of many other establishments. But as to the food!
For example, “no evidence of seasonal produce”? In Autumn, is not farm-produced white Adriatic and black genoa figs, marinated Sicilian olives and olive-infused baccala, rotola alla coneglia, frico, truffle-infused arancini, sage fritters, spinach and basil butter, bagna cauda, parmesan and sage tart very seasonal?
For example, “uninspired menu”. Did the “my opinion” note that the restaurant has three menus? And that the cuisine includes dishes very rare or uniquely di Lusso?.
(Perhaps, the reviewer looked at only the ItalianEasy Menu, designed for Sydney University students!) A few examples, Arancini, with mushroom and black truffle, Peperoni farciti, Bagna cauda, Sage fritters, Baccala Montecato, Frico, Avocado mousse with mange toute and truffle paste, Seitan, Rotolo di Coniglio and Spinach and basil butter.
No, I didn’t see Chicken or Veal Parmagiano on their menu (thank heavens!). Perhaps, it was the absence of pineapple garnish that was the problem!
For example “Overpriced”. I’m not sure where else “my opinion” dines, but ‘serious’ classic regional antipasti (ie not just bruschetta or Tip Top garlic bread) for $10, entrees from $15 and mains from $21 for dishes that are not just re-hashed ‘street food’ to me is pretty good value! AND premium wine at $8 a glass or $25 a bottle is around 1/3 what I’d pay elsewhere.
AND I was offered the chance to join the restaurant’s loyalty clu, attracting a 10% discount on all future restaurant and di Lusso Estate wine purchases.
So….fair go please!!
Great Food. Attention to detail. Good to see that there is still friendly but professional service left in the industry. Our waiter Robert is an asset to the di lusso clan he really knows is food and wine. For a great night out I would highly recommend Cucina di Lusso.
I liked the way they served us great food without being precious about it (except for the complicated menu). My chicken risotto was perfectly balanced, not greasy, as risottos often are. For we jaded Sydney diners, it was great to find new and delicious dishes, matched with unusual boutique wines. We went to the restaurant after discovering the vineyard in Mudgee.
The location is not ideal, with its view dominated by traffic, but the room is pleasantly laid out. The noise level could be improved. The waiters need more training, they were pleasant, but not observant. They would interrupt us when we were talking and then ignore us when we were waiting for something. Also, one of them should have checked the toilets before dinner. It looked as if the bins had not been cleared for days!
This is a great place, nice atmosphere and staff. A fan of their wine, I discovered their restaurant. Friendly service and great food, make sure you try the crab risotto. Definitely recommended.
This is a great new place for dinner - ambience in the evening is really lovely. The food is incredible value and some of the best quality I can remember eating in Sydney.
I had the Zucchini flowers which were crispy and filled with three cheeses followed by Mange Tout - aldente snow peas with Truffle - I can really recommend this, especially with the Vermentino. As a member of the di Lusso wine club I get a 10% discount - this makes a real difference.
I will definitely be back. Well done to the di Lusso family!!
Another great dining option in Glebe. Lunch on a Sunday afternoon should always be this good. Good was excellent with a variety of antipasto plates to supplement the mains. We stuck with the antipasto starting with a brushetta of sardines and rocket. This was wonderful especially with the warmed complimentary green olives. Then I tried the rissotto with crab & prawns. Superb taste and texture.
Wife had the kingfish fillet simply cokked in lemon & butter which also drew praise. We also tried the zuchinni flowers and they were good, easily the best I have eaten. Service is competent and friendly with a number of the family di Lusso in attendance.
It's a bit of a soulless place at the Broadway end of Glebe Point Road but there is always something to look at in lifes passing parade. Would like to go with a big party for a dinner one night when I feel the place would be at its best.
The wines are from the family label in Mudgee. We tried the Pinot Grigio which was wonderful. Definitely worth another visit.
An incredible dining experience only two weeks after opening. Serious food (complete with unheard of but great food tasting notes of every dish - history, ingredients, wine matching etc). Takes a while to get to grips with the menu, with all the degustation choices, but it's worth it! And great Italian varietal wine at cellar door prices!!
