Overview
Situated in Church St, Parramatta - fast becoming one of the busiest eat streets in town - Criniti's, a hotspot for hunger is serving some winning Italian hot cooked flavours.
Mamma Mia! Tuck into the taste of Calabria with pasta calabrese cooked in Napoletana sauce, olives, sausages, garlic and chilli or traditional rice dumplings brescioli, stuffed in mozzarella cheese served in Napoletana sauce.
Criniti's wood fire pizza are as fresh as the day itself, the Pizza Azzuri with its prosciotto, bocconcini, ricotta cheese, artichokes, and sundried tomatoes is by far the favourite. Criniti's has an extensive and tasty menu with steaks, seafood, pasta and pizza to choose from.
Southern Italians are known for several qualities; amongst these are short tempers and passionate dispositions. Fortunately there are no short tempers on display here, but the thing you'll notice immediately about Criniti's is that they wear their passion on their sleeves and on the walls. It reads like a who's who of best-loved sporting and film personalities; signed soccer balls encased in Perspex on the ceiling, Ferrari memorabilia, signed Soprano’s cast photos and by far the best feature; a huge painting of ‘The Last Supper’ (the Criniti version), featuring Al Pacino's Scarface, Marlon Brando's Godfather and select cast from the Sopranos and Goodfellas.
Criniti's passion extends no further than its food. The extensive Southern Italian-focused menu stays true to its roots with lots of tomato and olive oil-based dishes, grilled seafood and the most famous of all Southern Italian food, pizza.
The pasta menu offers a range of classic favourites and southern specialties such as Aglio Olio - pasta dressed in virgin olive oil, basil and parsley, served with prawns and chilli. The quality of the ingredients was impressive, the pasta was perfectly aldente and the prawns were generous, both in size and quantity.
Our Pizza Azzuri arrives next – thinly based (the Neapolitan way) with prosciutto, mushrooms, artichokes, bocconcini and fresh ricotta. The toppings are generous which proves slightly problematic when trying to pick up a slice, as they seem to want to slide off.
In between courses, we notice several other tables ordering the grain-fed ribs with ‘homemade secret-recipe sauce’. If you happen to be in a group of 3 or more, do try them. Why not less than 3? They're huge. Fred Flintstone huge. In fact most of the dishes here are more than generously proportionate and are suited to sharing amongst several people.
The Seafood Spiedino - skewered seafood (prawns, squid, octopus and scallops), char grilled and served with salad, chips and garlic aioli - looks as impressive as it tastes. The seafood has a great charred flavour and the baby octopus is marinated in balsamic vinegar, giving it a tangy lift. Other than that, there are no other spices, letting the flavour of the seafood take the lead.
With most dishes around $24-34 for very generous proportions, it is a great venue for groups of 4 or more – this restaurant is designed for relaxed sharing amongst family and friends.
Criniti's is my favourite restaurant, I love the food there!! Everything I've had there is amazing. Staff is not always attentive but you're never waiting too long for the food even though its always so busy. I always recommend this restaurant to everyone, because the food is great and not too expensive.
This is my favourite place. Why? Because the food is consistently good with very generous portions. Can only fit in a main. The staff are busy but they are attentive and the food comes out in good time always. If you are willing to wait a bit for a table, it's worth it. My fussy kids love to eat here and with all the noise and close together tables, it doesn't worry us. We love it. I wouldn't take toddlers though, as it is too crowded.
Ive been to Criniti's about ten times now and each time I go I enjoy myself and the huge portions of food. I must say the first time I went I had to wait about 20mins in line which was incredibly annoying, especially when you're starving and watching everyone else eat, but since then I now know to book and reserve a table, which is what I recommend everyone to do if they want to dine there, otherwise it's just a waste of time because every man is there, due to its popularity.
The service is very rush, but every time I have been there, the waitstaff have been delightful and very warm, except for the rude and 'up herself' lady at the front door. Food is fantastic though, I highly recommend it, if you haven't been there yet, you should definitely go!
We lined up with the rest of the sheep on a Saturday night for a friends birthday. The waitress had her madonna ear thing in to liaise with other waiting staff to free up tables, i thought this was practical and clever however the waitress thought she was of great importance with her earpiece and resembled someone on the door of an upmarket club in the city! We had to wait about 40 minutes for dinner in the line outside in the freezing cold, mind you they serve you garlic bread to keep you interested which I thought was a nice touch. They don't take bookings after 6.30pm and/or if half the restaurant has been booked.
The antipasto was great, generous and fresh.
The main meal consisted of entree size pastas and a chicken dish. The chicken dish was swimming is sauce, the vegetables were not cooked properly and from the amount of sauce you wouldn't know what sort of meat lurked beneath. My pasta was mediocre arriabiata. The meal size was generous but disgustingly wasteful for an entree size. I can see the appeal for big eaters (which I can be) and the meal sizes but I don't know what all the fuss is with this place as the food is really quite ordinary and nothing to boast about. I've been twice and the second time was not my choice. We had a group of 5 and it worked out that without drinks it cost us $42 per head! That's over $80 per couple for a simple pasta dish and chicken dish and small nibble of an antipasto platter. This place is right up themselves and an absolute rip off! Must say, it's warm and has good decor, that's about it!
On a Saturday night, there is a Line to you have to wait in, I got there 7 pm and waited 1 hour. The people in front of me left!! We even had to ask for our own menus!! While waiting, the hostess said I was behind these other ladies behind me, UUUMMMMM if I'm ahead of them, how did the conclusion of that come up? That makes no sense; did she want me to wait longer than 1 hour?
The iced strawberry was nothing special; the nanno's bread was nice and big. The pasta was huge I couldn't finish it, it was that big!! But you get what you pay for, a little pricey but like I said portions are big.
The food at Criniti's is delicious and absolutely MASSIVE!!! The only bad thing is that because it is so popular the service sometimes can be a little slow and it can get quite crowded and noisy, but it is worth it for the food!!!
Criniti's is the place to go when in Parramatta. Their food is immaculate, with generous portions that even if you are full, you just don't want to stop eating!
Staff can be a little on the impatient side, but that is understandable when the place is fully booked every single night!
Highly recommended!
