Came here for the strawberry waffles and soy chai tea. I agree, the soy chai tea is a stand out here being homemade. The strawberry waffles were lacking syrup and sauce. Waitress was not very pleasant to deal with either. We had to get our own menus while she stood around. Overall, not bad of a place especially since it is open every night until 12 am.
Edit: Came here yesterday for a cheap dinner. Barramundi salad and mango salsa special was delicious. Lovely salad dressing, plenty of salad and best of all, beautifully cooked barramundi topped with awesome salsa! Dining companion had the chicken schnitzel special. Same deal with salad, and lovely seasoning on the chicken. Same waitress, not a very happy lady.
Great, slightly bohemian cafe. The breakfast tortilla is good, and their home made chai very impressive. The outside tables seem to be very dog-friendly and there's interesting artwork on the walls. Nice mix of green-mohawk artistic types and families with strollers seem to go there.
I love Corellis and am always there when I get a chance, The food is always good and is great value for money. I love that the staff are nice, not pretentious and just real. They'll be nice to you to, when you feel like it but who cares. I love breakfast there on a weekend and its better than being couped up in a trendy wanna be cafe on the weekend and paying double for less food.
I love this place. For a start, it's probably the best spot in Newtown. Great to just sit back and chill, people watch, get inspired. Food is always great and I've never been disappointed. As for the coffee, this is the place that got me started drinking coffee. I come here because I don't want silver service, I don't want someone hovering over me every minute with a fake smile. I want reality. And that's what Corelli's is - down to earth, simple, and lots of fun. Come here if you want to leave with a full stomach, money in your pocket and a big smile.
This funky, fringy cafe does not disappoint. You will find them just South of Newtown Station on King Street. What I love is how they serve up their own style of classic cafe fair and some originals too. Best Soy Chai! made with fresh spices in a large pot with latte milk. Desserts are made in-house and hard to choose between Sticky Date with a dollop of cream, Berry Cheesecake or the Waffles...Yummmm.
Warm Chicken Salad is my fave for lunch or light dinner or for just a snack, glass of yoghurt w/berries. My Brekky choice is scrambled eggs on hand-cut gourmet sourdough bread and I can spread-my-own Vegemite. Great Value, sit in or outside and watch the kaleidoscope that is Newtown just walk on by.
I've only been here once but I'm not exactly pining for a second visit. The food was quite nice, my sister and I shared a tofu burger and a mediterranean melt, and the coffee was pretty good.
What let this place down was the service. I had to actually go up to the woman working behind the counter to ask for a menu and some water. Took over twenty minutes to place an order, though I suppose the order arrived relatively quickly given the previous standard. The actual waitress we had was quite nice and apologetic about taking so long/ignoring us whenever she walked past, but why don't they just put more wait staff on? Judging from the other reviews it appears that the service is always at this standard.
The service at this place is horrible. There is one old lady behind the counter who never smiles, barely says thank you is really just a c-word. But to be fair they are all a bit like her there.
First time i had coffee there I said I would never go back as the latte I ordered was really bad. But I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt and went back, big mistake! If you want decent food you can go to any of the other places around. But if you want really bad service with the most unfriendly staff then come to Corellis!
I’ve been to Correlli’s with my wife. She loves the chai there and we’ve had a few breakfasts there as well.
Personally it’s just a bit too ‘Newtown’ for my liking, tries hard not to try hard! I find the service pretty terrible every time I go. There isn’t room to swing a mouse, let alone a cat. And I’ve never been bowled over by the food either. I think there are several cafes a little bit further down King St that do a better job.
The food takes a while to arrive here but is excellent, the staff don't suffer people who are rude to them and are more than happy to explain things on the menu or sort out extras and substitutes. Most importantly, the best pot of chai I've ever had, better than what I grind and blend at home.
