Great coffee! Really nice place to sit and relax without the hussle and bustle of King Street. The staff have always been terrific, very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.
So the staff were great, a really nice place to sit back and enjoy a Sunday morning, only the food is just weird. My boyfriend ordered the basic big breakfast which had no taste at all, literally everything just seemed to be tasteless. My eggs Benedict could have been good but I’ll just call it hollandaise sauce on bread because it was sickeningly drowning in hollandaise sauce.
I love the stuff but it was too much even for me, there must have been about 3 cups of the stuff just smothering my entire plate. The bread and eggs were actually swimming in it and it completely overpowered and ruined any chance of actually tasting the egg or ham. The only part of our meal we could actually taste and enjoy was our tea and orange juice.
I didn’t get a chance to order coffee as my stomach was churning from the mountain of hollandaise I was served with my eggs, however, what they say must be true because there was a constant line for coffee. It’s a shame because it’s such a good location and you don’t feel crammed in like other cafes. I suppose with all the good reviews maybe they were just having a bad morning, I’ll try it again just for the coffee.
So I went today to see how good the coffee was, I must say the Latte was great. Toasted banana bread was tasty as well. Very competitive prices. I think this place will only get better!
Another to add to the Sydney Cafe Trail for all the coffee snobs out there. Using the Vertigo blend from The Golden Cobra roasters, the coffee here is excellent and its what bought me here in the first place.
Food is also top notch, very fresh and always tasty. Service is generally good, although I think the younger staff tend to lose it a bit during busier periods. This is something that you can only get used to with time though. Loses a few marks on ambience for me as this place is very popular for young families on the weekend, and I don't really like small children.
That said, I have found that going there for a weekday breakfast is the best way around that. Easily the best cafe in the Newtown area. Just don't tell anyone!
I have travelled from the Liverpool area just for coffee here, it is the best coffee I have tasted and I agree they are nice to the kids and as for the smoking Not a major problem for me (and I am not even a smoker).
This is my fav cafe in the area! The staff are amazing and the location is fabulous (tucked in away from busy king st.). The menu has changed a little recently, but for the better. The veggie breakfast is fabulous and the omelete of the day is always light served with a gorgeous rocket salad. Try the new BLT or the cordial burger for lunch as they are both winners. And the coffee...Campos, LOOK OUT! All day breakfast on weekends only.
Great food, way above any thing else in Newtown. However the coffee is the thing for me recently changed to The Golden Cobra, very well trained baristas, Campos should be worried, easily on par, without the attitude! I can go to cordial with my 5 year old and not get hassled because she isnt drinking a coffee.
I walk past here in the mornings on the way to uni for my coffee and I'm glad I ventured in! Jason, the barrista is incredibly nice. After my first visit, he remembered how I have my coffee and is always very friendly first thing in the morning! And it's a generous size for the cost so good that I venture up there during the day for my coffee rather than grabbing one around uni. However, one day one of the girls made my coffee and it wasn't quite as creamy and too hot - it was a surprise as I was used to it being served at drinking temperature and ended up burning my tongue not expecting it to be so hot!
Beautiful cafe! Love that it's off King St and has sunny outdoor areas for eating and sipping their yummy coffees. The service is always friendly and the food is delicious. Nice and relaxed, definitely a favourite. Oh! and to that person complaining about the staff smoking, you have to be kidding. It's a cafe, every one else smokes there on their lunch breaks from work and cafe staff need a break too!
