My fave cafe in the area, coffee is the best and George is such a hospitable character. They have the best and freshest omelettes in town. Fantastic place, why are they not closer to my home.
This one is my virtual lounge room and kitchen in Sydney! This is something of an institution here in the Surry Hills/Central area. George and Steve's gregarious, genuinely friendly style is a refreshing change from generic cafes. Their delicious array of meals, the brilliant barrista of George, the ample space to accommodate you or 12 friends at a table, the "commendable" selection of newspapers and magazines, makes this a place to visit for breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea... can you tell I'm addicted? Make C&A your staple daytime dining experience, and only hope they one day open for dinner.
Delicious. Absolutely delicious. In fact, it's 7am and I can't wait to get on down and read the Financial Review over an expertly and lovingly made latte.
Reccomendations: "Homestyle" Beef & Burgundy and, "Chicken & Leek" pies, the tasty salads with yummy rocket, the felafel wraps, the lamb souvlaki wraps, the pastas, the daily specials... this is a place you can come alone for a great meal and read the news, or entertain a new or old loved one, or entertain and discuss business with friends or clients. I've done all of them.
Can you tell I'm addicted? I rarely rave for nothing! A Cafe at its best; an example for how other Sydney ones to do it!
Go there once or twice a day, by far the best coffee in the area, George has enviable memory for the names of his guests, his partner is a bit grumpy at times but the brekky unbeatable. Should not praise this place too much since it might attract more customers.
The food is absolutely delicious and the servings are huge. There are a lot of cafe type creations, such as chick pea burgers (which are delicious) but also your bog standards such as steak sandwiches, pastas and salads.
The service is a bit slow and chaotic, and it's a bit chi chi at times, but it's worth putting up with for the food and coffee.
Discovered this place at the recommendation of friends from work. We had a great lunch, the servings were huge and the coffee was delicious (I would agree that it is the best I have tasted in this area). There is not that many great cafes / restaurants this end of Surry Hills who can fit tables of 8-12 easily.
Used to be able to be a big fan: there every Sat breakkie, they would see us walk past to get the paper and have coffees (up to Melbourne's standards) ready by the time we came in, v friendly, non-pretentious staff, BIG breakfasts w equally good vegetarian option, eggs poached to perfection and all only 40m from home. Unfortunately they're no longer open on weekends :o(
