Went in a couple of Friday's ago for a few drinks with some friends after not being there since last Summer.
Good to see they seem to have got rid of the senior staff who was a sleazy weasel. His service last time was creepy. Unfortunately, they've kept the lazy 'larger' senior staff who seems to do nothing other than puff out his chest and walk around.
The staff seem to have improved. Although they still favour talking behind the bar than serving, they were all pleasant once we got their attention. For some reason they had techno music playing making it really uncomfortable. Dinner was normal. A bit pricey but good portions. The place seems to be looking good although could use some dollars put into it.
Have not been here for a while but there has definitely been an improvement. Food was delicious and portions always on the large side. Had the pork belly which was beautiful. The wine list has recently been improved and great selection of beers. Great place for few beers and a catch up with friends. Staff were friendly and place appears to be under new management, definite improvement. Could do with a small renovation though as is looking a little tired.
Great place to go with friends at the weekend either for lunch or dinner, especially in the summer. Abit pricey but good portion sizes. Service is abit poor. Some of the bar staff are abit rude at times but in general I like the place.
We live just down the road, so, unfortunately, we have to call the Commodore our "local". We have been to this pub on about 3 or 4 occasions hoping it would get a little better, but it hasn't! It is full of pretentious people who are more concerned about looking good than conversation, and the same can be said for the bar staff.
On many a night either I, or my partner, has been standing at the bar and the period of time between standing at the bar, ordering a drink actually getting it, and your change generally ranges from about 15 minutes on a quite night, to half an hour on a busy one. They are the most hopeless bar staff I have ever encountered, chatting amongst each other and fixing their hair seem to take priority over serving customers.
Take my advice, you want a decent night on blues point road, you are over the age of 18 and a half and think that wearing a belt as a skirt and stiletto heels is not appropriate for the pub? Go to a restaurant or the blues point hotel.
I went there with colleagues for a farewell lunch. I ordered salt and pepper squid and there was a fried fly in my plate. And also, I have eaten half of the dish. It is very disgusting and a serious concern of their hygiene. Even though I got refund for the meal, the service still wasn't good enough.
I found all the meal sizes to be generous especially the fish and chips. The food quality is very good for a pub. Menu changes frequently as well. The pub could do with a facelift but generally a great place to be in summer .
Have been for several work lunches over the past couple of months. Good atmosphere, plenty of space and the food is consistent plus a varied menu. Possibly some of the best salt and pepper calamari I've tasted, comes exactly as it is served if you were somewhere on the Mediterranean!
Have been here many times on a Sunday afternoon for drinks and then dinner.
The place is simply somwhere to sit down, have a few drinks and some food. There is no entertainment but there is something about it that really makes it nice and gives it a great vibe. I recommend any meal, in particular the steaks. It is not cheap but where is these days.
Great place to go to catch up from friends, very comfortable, good atmosphere. Food is excellent too - I think it's definitely the best pub in the lower north shore.
