Cute little place, good for watching traffic go by. Staff were very friendly, the iced coffee was excellent and the chicken baguette was very nice, a light sandwich with high quality bread and butter. Prices were standard city cafe type prices. Went on a Tuesday at lunchtime, was a quiet and peaceful escape.
I definitley want to echo the sentiments of the fellow posters regarding this beauty of a cafe especially Carlitos post. Although not great in size and comfort, this cafe offers that special coziness true coffee houses are meant to offer. The coffee is of a high standard everytime guaranteed and the outlet itself is a true testimony of what family ambience and care can offer the local community.
This joint is definitley going places and gets better everytime I visit, add to that great service and friendly staff and all fields are ticked off for a special experience. Great work guys and girls.
Had a lovely tea experience here! from the little wooden tables to the mismatched teacups and saucers...really nice! And I had a really great lime brulee tart also...mmm!
I love that this place isn't pretentious and the service is so lovely and gentle. No 'fabulous', flamboyant wait staff - just really pleasant. The food is also fabulous (I think they get their bread from Brasserie Bread - which can only mean good things!) although I didn't try the coffee. The 'shabbiness' is also not overdone, unlike so many places in Surry Hills. Such an earnest place. Such a good find.
Great baguettes and coffee and sunny aspect. Avoid on weekend, especially Surry Hills market day. Seats maybe 12 people inside and 4? outside on short seats. Don't go there if you have somewhere else to be afterwards. The food takes ages to come, to the point where you worry that your order has been forgotten. It is delicious and fresh when it arrives and the service is friendly. I have only had the tea once, but if you like your tea they serve it in lovely granny china and there is a wide selection.
This cafe is the true definition of quaint in Sydney. The cafe is small in size, giving a cozy feel. The menu is simple yet tasty. I rated their food highly, as I am a big fan of their coffee. I am yet to try their tea, as they have a great range to choose from. What is most impressive is the level of service. Warm, friendly and genuine. It is best to visit this cafe, on a nice sunny morning, where there is alfresco seating on the footpath, where you can lap up the sun while you enjoy your coffee or tea with your meal. Warning, with the restricted space and popularity of this cafe, you may find it hard to get a seat.
I want to marry this cafe. I especially want to marry their chicken baguettes. I have tried - with a gross lack of success - to recreate this tarragon-mayo-ensconced experience at home, and even felt like a traitor in doing so. Part of the experience is having it delivered to you on mismatched, Royal-Albert-esque crockery, hand-made to order by the red-headed Christine, the female half of Coffee, Tea or Me? Shane - the male half - makes your coffee, served in similarly quaint vessels. Tables are adorned by ancient, Secret Seven-type books, and the walls with Jane Fonda paraphernalia.
Their counter cakes look like something Paddington Bear would eat. In fact, I'm sure he dines here. A seat can be hard to come by at busy times - but there are wooden crates if you want to sit on the pavement and watch Surry Hills go by. All baguettes and bagels are made to order and you may wait a wee while for your lunch - but everything is made with love and the value is really quite exceptional. I have taken over 10 people to this quaint little corner cafe and everyone has loved it. Did I say I wanted to marry it?
Friendly staff in a lovely quaint environment but extremely slow service. Would only go back if I had a lot of time to kill. Food was ok. Tea was nice.
Beautiful little cafe, fantasic owners, service can be a little slow but it is always a pleasure being there. The homemade winter soups are definitely my favorite.
