This is our third times to coast but couldn't remember anything about the food. When my husband read the so awful reviews about coast, we were so reluctant to go but we took the risk and went anyway. As usual the views were breathtaking, restaurant was quite full (a good sign).
The service was excellent. We ordered 7 course degustation, food was reasonably good and the portion of each dish was quite big. We were all quite full by the time the fifth dish which was the barramundi was served, very tasty. We were glad the sixth dish was not served straight away. The last dish was supposed to be dessert only but instead to our surprise, not one but three types of desserts were given.
They even remembered my husbands birthday as his dessert plate was inscribed with the occasions which we were all blown away. My husband ordered a cup of coffee and this was not charged to the bill.
We will definitely return again. We enjoy the food, the service n the beautiful views. Thank you for making this occasion very special for my family.

Dinner for four a pleasure Saturday night. My caramelised veal tongue was spot on for flavour and texture and was only beaten by my perfectly cooked crispy skinned barramundi with plump surf clams and a yummy roast fennel sauce. My fellow dinners mostly liked their choices, especially the spinach, mushroom and ricotta pasta roulade but the wagyu scotch fillet did not live up to its top price status. Helpful staff and a good bottle of Clare red, together with fireworks over Darling Harbour rounded out the night.

I'm not a big eater, left disappointed and hungry. Coast is over priced, small portions and tasteless, meals came at different times some forgotten. Coast you're over rated. A big let down.

This is without a doubt my worst ever dining experience in Sydney of the 21st century and of late that is saying something. I don't know what it is but Sydney CBD restaurants have descended into such a slough that it is hard to imagine them ever extricating themselves.
Last night we gave up the chance to go and watch Central Coast Mariners win and join the players at an after match Christmas party (I had an invite) to go to dinner with a client. They picked Coast in Cockle Bay, fine dining it was supposed to be. It was the worst meal out I have ever had. Nondescript and tasteless food served cold.
My starter was "Southern calamari, smoked eggplant, chilli, preserved lemon and oregano". The only thing that tasted of anything was the chilli. Everything else on the plate was of the same nondescipt texture and flavour.
My main was "Grilled pork cutlet, white polenta, blackened green beans, anchovy and salsa verde". Pork is hard to bugger up but they managed. Stringy and without any discernible flavour I ploughed on through mine but our hostess sent hers back. All items on the plate were flavourless in the extreme and if there was any anchovy used in this dish it was because there was an old jar kept in the same fridge that the meat was stored in.
My partner's "well done" (I know, I know) "Peppered grass fed Angus T-bone, confit cherry tomatoes, watercress and truffle" was still bleeding. The watercress was woody. Given that it was $45 you'd think that they'd be able to overcome any reticence about giving a steak a few more moments on the grill.
We also ordered three sides of chips ($8.00 each). Only two arrived but we were charged for three. Not only were there not many chips in each bowl but they were of the kind you get at a club - brought in from the bulk food supplier parcooked and served over cooked, soggy, cold and over salted.
Added to that the place is tremendously noisy so conversation was difficult even with the person adjacent to you. The coffee was quite good. And they got the bill wrong.

A special lunch today at Coast - great menu - I could have chosen lots of these. A beautifully prepared meal, attentive and professional service, just the way it should be. Only about a third full at lunch time on a Friday. I will definitely return here.

Great view but disappointing service on a Thurs evening. Seated at our table for 20 minutes (8 pm booking) without anyone approaching us for drinks order, had difficulty attracting any interest in our table. Same problem with ordering dessert. ?not enough staff during week. Ravioli main meal consisted only of 4x 1 inch pieces of ravioli placed in the 4 corners of a square. Poor value as meals $30-40!
Not keen to return, if you're paying top dollar for a special night, the service has to match.

Six of us went there for dinner on a week night, the place was quite empty with only 5 tables of guests when we arrived.
Service: our waitress was friendly but had very limited knowledge in everything. Despite the restaurant being close to empty, we had to get up, got our own wine, it was placed on a side table and poured it ourselves.
Food: we ordered an antipasto plate to share, lucky we did that as it took 45 minutes for the entrees to come out. Entrees were fine but the servings were small. Main courses arrived around 20 minutes after the entrees, the lamb was really nice, so was the pork but the T Bone, served medium, was tough as an old boot.
Wine list: good selection of nicely priced local and Italian wines. Will I go back…..probably, but not for the service.

Ordered the 7 course degustation with matching wine ($185 per head). We got:
-bread and oil to share
-3 oysters each
-one shot (50ml) of pea soup each
-one handful of calamari and a small tablespoon size quinelle of eggplant mush each
-one fried piece of fish (3cm x 7cm x 2cm) on a few lentils each
-one ricotta/pumpkin cannelloni (4cm x 10cm) each
-one tiny lamp chop (about two mouthfuls of lamb) each (more like a medallion)
-Small serving of baby tomatoes to share (salad)
-one tablespoon of citrus granita each
-one 50-cent size "donut' dome on strawberry jam each
-One 20cent size piece of chocolate tart and a teaspoon size quinelle of ice cream (one mouthful of food!)
-one macchiato each
- one piece of honeycomb, 1cm cube of turkish delight and 2 small mint choc sticks each
No food was bad... but for that price it should have been outstanding - and it wasn't. For $370, two people should leave a restaurant full, satisfied, impressed... and pretty tipsy!
We ate less than a whole plate of food each and the food was far from special. I found a bone in my fish and there was no apology! The lamb was tough.
The dessert was an insult. 20-cent piece size of tart! Most food needed seasoning and was pretty bland.
Overall?
Not full.
Not tipsy.
Not happy.
100% rip off. Never going back despite the fact that it is a gorgeous looking place with a lovely view. Would have been better off elsewhere. I've had better at a buffet.

I was in two minds whether to go here for dinner here after reading some of the reviews, however, thankfully I was pleasantly surprised.
The food was truly amazing, the service was excellent and the views are breathtaking. There was a slight draft as we were sitting by the window so we asked to move and this was no problem. I do have 2 complaints tho which is a shame. I had read on some from the reviews that it was a 'BYO' restaurant, so as I was walking in with my bottle of wine tucked under my arm I was stopped by one of the staff, (manager I think).
He advised me that this is Not a BYO restaurant but when I told him I read it on the reviews that it was he then said well it $10.00 for corkage. I didn't have a problem with this. Shortly afterward a different waiter came to our table and advised me that it was actually $20.00 for corkage but he would only charge us $10 as that's what we were told earlier! That was fine and my vino was delish!
I had an Entertainment card which basically gives you 25% off the total bill, but when I went to pay I was advised that my Entertainment card was not acceptable on this occasion as we had chosen the set meal. It states no where on their add in Entertainment book that the discount does not apply to set meal choices. So my sister and I tackled them on this and basically it was a no win situation for him! we got our discount and were on our way!
Overall we had a very pleasant experience there and I certainly would go back.

I was in for dinner last week with 3 friends and we all agreed that Coast was outstanding. The food was fresh modern and generously portioned. Service was prompt efficient and non-obtrusive. Our waiter and sommelier were extremely informative and knowledgeable. After amazing desserts (Bitter chocolate tart with cardomon gelato) we relocated to the Roof Top Bar area out on the terrace to watch the fireworks in Darling Harbor. They are so close we got amazing photos (Literally metres from us), finishing off a brilliant night. We will all definitely be back at Coast soon!
