How disappointing our meal at the Clovelly Hotel was. The food is way overpriced, restaurant prices for mediocre pub food and shocking service.

Firstly they misplaced our reservation which was a bad start. After we finally got seated, the food arrived quickly except my son's meal which didn't turn up till I had nearly finished mine. No Parmesan offered and they had run out of black pepper! My $26 linguine marinara had some nice fish and prawns but the linguine was all dry and stuck together. My son's kids fish & chips was the smallest kids meal I have ever seen. I used to love this place but I won't eat here again.

We first visited in 2010 and thought this place was great. Having returned on Friday eve 20th April we were very disappointed. Firstly they had forgotten to make a note of our reservation, which they found on a scrap of paper near to the reservation list. We were offered a dirty table in the 'refurbished' dining room which was noisy and crowded. We chose to sit in the bar area instead but after 15 minutes a live band started up and we could no longer converse. The chicken & sweetcorn pie had no sweetcorn in it and the kangaroo steak was half the size it used to be. The starters were ok and arrived quickly but the mains took almost an hour. In summary, noisy, crowded, average food, over priced and slow service.

Absurdly overpriced for what it is. Prices compare to some of the cities best restaurants but you still have to fetch your own silverware and eat amongst wet drink coasters. $25 for Spaghetti Bolognese? Refurb is nice and as always, fun crowd with friendly service. Just make sure you eat beforehand.

We love the Clovelly. Bravo to excellent staff who make us feel very welcome, even with our 11 month old baby. Its such a relief to find a place where locals, families and the young guns can enjoy a beer and a burger in perfect harmony. Love their new garden area - a great investment!

So thank you again for making those with babies part of the furniture. The Strawberry Hills Hotel should take a leaf out of your book!

Extremely disappointed by the overprized ($17!) tasteless chicken burger. My friend ordered fish and chips and also found it horrible. What's going on in the kitchen?

No idea what they're doing with the renovations here, but the food is more expensive, the atmosphere is ruined and there's no outdoor area. We ordered burgers and they hadn't even toasted the bun, they were completely cold and the "avocado" was cheap guacamole dip out of a packet. The steaks are $42. It's a shame, this place used to be great but I have no idea what they're doing with it.

We eat here weekly. They have amazing specials every night of the week. Best things are the Burgers and the Pizzas are great. Other things can be a bit pricey for a pub meal. They have a great outdoor patio on the back and great atmosphere in general. Bartenders are really friendly as well. Gotta love this place.

The restaurant is currently under renovation and is due to be finished in Spring 2011.
The current upstairs bistro was not as good as the old restaurant. The old restaurant had good food, and huge servings sizes. The current upstairs bistro had decent food at above average price.

I have been to Clovelly Hotel on numerous occasions, the service is never great, usually have to wait awhile for your food. There is no table service and need to order at the counter, which is normal for a hotel but Girls on the counter are never friendly nor helpful. The food is always nice, but I do think overpriced. You do also get large portions.

In an ideal world every local pub would be like the Clovelly. Great food, drinks at pub prices, friendly service, what's not to love. 2005. In the intervening years we have visited the Cloe many times. Most recently, we were there on Sunday for lunch, with brother-in-law, Ms Piggy and her beloved. We ordered the tasting plate to share, expecting it to be a light meal, thus leaving an appetite for Balzac degustation in the evening.

The food was delicious and a larger serve than we imagined. B-i-L had fettuccine with prawns, he said was excellent. Ms Piggy and beloved had steaks, also very good, with plenty of crisp chips. (Beloved was also kind enough to help us out with the tasting plate). Value was very good for the quality of food and generosity of portions.

May 2012 - We have not been to the Cloee for a while. Things have changed, new decor, new menu, same friendly service. MM had the fish and chips, chips were very good, batter on the two pieces of fish was very hard, fish inside was fine. I had the smoked salmon salad, served in a large oval bowl, plenty of baby spinach leaves, halved cherry tomatoes, fresh green peas, other greenery, with a generous amount of flaked smoked salmon, with a light dressing, wedge of lemon on the side to brighten things up. Nice selection of wines by the glass.
