MY friend loves the dessert here but I have yet to try. The food is reasonable but nothing great. Its located next to the Dendys and it always seem to have people there. The variety on the menu is larger than other places. The banana and hazelnut smoothy was great!! Though looking at it, you think you were drinking something grainy!! Tastes a lot better than it looks.
I've been to Cinque several times over the past few years and have always looked forward to their corn fritters with bacon. I went there last Friday and order the corn fritter. It was smaller in size and it was doughy in one section. Overall, it tasted dry and bland. I couldn't finish the second one so I just finished off the salsa. I'll come back for the drinks but not so sure about the food. Seems like the change in menu also meant a change in chef.
I like Cinque for coffee and a piece of cake or snack, which are always ok, maybe a more dairy-free options would be nice, there's a great selection of drinks, and the few other menu items I've tried have always been fine. The service is friendly and upbeat, it varies a little obviously from person to person but we had a memorable experience here once, quite a while ago, when we were running out of time before our movie and wanted takeaway hot drinks, and it has given me a lasting positive impression of the cafe.
I ordered a looseleaf herbal tea and the young guy making them said it wouldn't have time to infuse properly before the movie started, so let me take the metal infuser in to the theatre with me, saying, just drop it back on your way out! (which we did). Obviously this was exceptional you can't expect that kind of thing all the time. But it was the thoughtfulness which was impressive. Anyway, I'll continue to go to Cinque when I go to the Dendy and hopefully they'll get a few more vegan options on their menu.
This place is a reliable option when in search of decent cafe fare. It does get quite busy, so pop in early on a weekend. The wait staff are usually rushed on their feet, given the popularity of this place.
I can understand why some people would find the service terrible, but I'm happy as long as my order is taken promptly and my food arrives cooked. I don't mind the coffee at this place either. Well worth a look if you're heading to the Dendy. You will find the prices are also reasonable.
They have just changed their menu and now have only one vegetarian dish - vegieburgers! I used to go to this place at least once a fortnight when I went to the Dendy. Popped in the other night after a film, saw that there is now only one dish for vegetarians, asked if they could make me up a vegatarian past - but was refused. A disgusting approach to diversity.
We have never had a good experience at this place - don't expect to be served by any of the 6 wait staff (who seem to think their job description should be taken literally and they should just stand and wait for their shift to be over). 3 out of 4 times we had to get our own menus and the fourth time we walked out after 15 minutes of being ignored.
Admittedly the times we actually were fed here the food was quite good- but not good enough to justify the price or the lack of service. Wish new management would take it over so we'd have somewhere decent to go before and after the movies.
This cafe is the worst cafe in Newtown. I was recently there with some friends and the service was terrible. We ordered an omelette and forgot to say no cream. The omelette was so creamy the cream was oozing out of the egg onto the plate. It was disgusting. However we thought we'd try a bite anyway before complaining to see if it was eatable and save them the trouble. It was so bad we could not eat it, so we sent it back and was told we still had to pay for it.
We discussed with the manager our disappointment and were met with rudeness and arrogance. He said "thank you good bye" and we ended up paying. The staffs here have not been educated in customer service. I would not have posted this if we were treated fairly. After all how much would it have set them back the price of an omelette? I don't think they realised the cost they have incurred...
Furthermore, prior to this experience I went there twice before. The first time the pasta was perfect, exactly as I liked it (I can't have cream due to health issues). The second time I ordered the same pasta and it was creamy. Once again I was not refunded my money and expected to pay. This proves this cafe has not only bad service but an inconsistent menu. Very very bad do not go here if you wish to enjoy your meal.
I'm always amazed by the variation in the dining experiences on this website... I've been to Cinque, perhaps, a dozen times in the past six months and find the service and food reasonably consistent.
The drinks are definitely a cut above the rest - last time I had a macadamia milkshake which was delicious. I often order the burger royal, which is a real crowd pleaser if you're starving. I would rate Cinque as a reliable, quality cafe and although the staff are often young (inexperienced), for the main part they are friendly and accommodating.
