The rudest worst experience ever. The worst experience in an Indian restaurant. Though the restaurant was not crowded, the food took about 1/2 hour to arrive and that too not hot at all. All dishes tasted almost similar. We ordered extra rotis and that took another 20-25 minutes to come and that too cold, by which time no one was in the mood to eat. We complained to the senior staff who got rude with us. The worst part is he made us feel as if we had gone there for a fight rather than food. Strongly suggest not to go there.
Most disappointing restaurant ever. Been there three times, every time same story. Every time wait for someone to serve you then everything doesn't come at same time, by the time you will have your entree, your partner might have finished with main.
Last time asked them to cancel the rice and waiter gave such an attitude and when asked for their staff, she didn't have guts to come out and sort the problem out. At the end we were so disappointed that we had to leave then she came out and gave a silly excuse that her kitchen staff messed up every thing tonight. I still paid for everything which we didn't eat or you can say was not eatable.
Savouring almost all items that I have tried from the Chutney menu brings back pleasant memories of good old home-cooked North Indian food. The vegetarian Thali (an assortment of veg. dishes with rice and Indian bread) is, for me, the best value for money meal that one could consume in Sydney.
Their service might be a tad sub-optimal but this becomes a peripheral issue for me when I put that first morsel of hot, fresh food into my mouth, be it chicken masala or achari eggplant. Undoubtedly a cut above the monotonous, oily and over-spiced fare available in most standard Indian restaurants.
Service was very bad, completely junk food. Food was served very cold and spoiled bitter taste is coming from the yoghurt, papads are not crispy. Will not recommend anybody.
Visiting Chutney was a complete surprise after an evening walk with a friend of mine who lived in Harris Park. He suggested Indian restaurant...and as Indian himself...he knows his Indian foods. It was a Thursday night...about 8.20pm as we walked in Chutney...plenty of seats and few staffs on the floor. We helped ourselves to the big table but was moved to small table when the waiter noticed us. Anyway, I wish more waiters are on the floor as they are many uncleared tables and we helped ourselves to the menus...I think the management doesn't mind us in 'self-service' along the dining experience.
The menus are massive...so...I let my friend do the ordering. He ordered 4 dishes...and Heywards 5000 (an imported Indian beer) for himself and Rose Lassi for me. Heywards 5000 is a strong beer. 1.8 standard drink per serve. Rose Lassi is a milk + yoghurt concoction with Rose syrup.
The entrees came within 10 minutes after we had the drinks. I don't remembered the names but we had a vegatarian entree with plenty of yoghurt and cream over it. Quite cool to the system if you are planning to tuck in lots of curry later and Indian style chicken kebabs. Very nice and a bit spicy.
For the mains, we had a potato Dhosa each and Briyani Chicken rice. The Dhosa is huge...if you unrolled it, at least 60cm in diameter. Anyway, Dhosa is a thin salty Indian pancake with fillings in the middle. 1 Dhosa can feed a family. And we had 1 each!
Overall, I was impressed with the food we ordered. However, the service is lacking...as my friend has to queue up to pay the bill and it is very hard to get the attention of the staffs. Indian feast for 2, the bill came to around $68.
There is a dessert counter next to the cashier with plenty of Indian sweets and biscuits. And a fully licensed bar offering a long list of cocktails too.
For myselfI used the entertainment book voucher on a friday night and they accepted it!! BUT only when my friend tried using her credit card, they said cash only when using the voucher but I had cash!! I am not doubting though other peoples problems using entertainment book vouchers, if they don't accept it then they should at least have a sign like another place I've seen saying WHEN it can be used.
I had the vege meals and it was nice!! My friend came another time and wasn't impressed with the hygiene, he said his table was wiped down by a smelly dirty cloth!!
Looks like ive had a better experience than others
Food was OK, comparable to most other Indian Restaurant, but not as good as other Indian places that are just down the road in Harris Park. They have also violated rules of the vouchers they offered (e.g. Entertainment Book vouchers) by denying their use with no legitimate or prior notice. Service is quite lacking as we were placed inside an alcove where waiters could not see us and ignored us most of the time. Will not be returning there.
