I’ve been here quite a few times and always had a great meal…
It’s been a few months and now they’ve remodelled. It’s a pretty hip Thai place now. Well decorated, and the food is really, really good. My pad thai tonite was superb. The crab starter was really nice…but small.
But one HUGE complaint. Their menus (and in my whole life I’ve never really had an opinion about the style of a restaurant’s menu [good or bad]) are the worst menus I’ve seen in my entire life.
I’m a writer. I’m an avid reader as well. And those menus…are so poorly put together, they need to bin them asap. It’s impossible to have a browse through the menu and figure out what’s what and how much any of it costs. Nice food though.
One of Thai restaurant I can recommend on Darling Street! It's been awhile since we've been here but the food still reach our expectations. Good size servings, staff were very attentive and good value for money. Will definitely come back sooner this time.
Food was great and love the portions. The price isn't to bad either. You do need to book though as it gets very crowded. Staff there could be a bit better.
With Thai, the cuisine of choice from several in our group a trip to Balmain presented several options. Without booking we lobbed at Chopsticks and managed a table for 7 on a saturday night. For me Blue Ginger has set the standard for Thai in Balmain and Pinto Thai is a good quick solid meal (with a great view of the harbour Bridge if you get the upstairs room), Chopsticks sits nicely between the two.
Good sized meals and with quality meats. The stable Green Chicken Curry was one of the best I've had with excellent quality meat (sliced thinly but not dry). My favourite beef Mussaman Curry had generous large meat pieces extremely tender! Service was pleasant and helpful when trying to choose the amount of food would suit our group. Be back for sure, and will book to ensure I don't miss out!
Went here for a friends birthday who had booked a table for 12. The table looked more to be for 6 people as we were very "cosy". The service was ok, a smile would have helped. The food was quite tasty though which made up for it.
Got to say, after frequenting more budget type Thai restaurants in Newtown, and even more locally out west, walking in to this better presented joint meant it had alot to live up to and it almost did live up to it's expectations. Decor wise its nice. Modern, warm, but not too pretentious. The food was great. generous sized servings that weren't too heavy, leaving room for late night dessert and cake for the birthday we were there to celebrate.
Ambience was surprisingly great for a Monday night. Good mixed bag of lollies , with a couple of families, some couples, young and old filling the relatively small space. What did, however, drag the chain was the staff. As much as I appreciate women, there was something, unappropriate, about alot of the waitresses wearing short denim skirts at a dinner serving.
A forgivable sin yes, but after having to ask for some forks for my non chopstick using companions, and having to ask TWICE, and still, by the end of the meal, not receiving them, meant there was no tip at the end. Only 3 unhappy europeans who only JUST managed to eat their meals with makeshift chopstick-stabbing skills. I will be back but only because I can use chopsticks.
This was my first Thai experience and I believe the food was quite beautiful... very filling but light as well.. not heavy at all and the decor in this place was stunning, not to mention warm too. I like this place and will come back again, it was definitely value for food too. The servings were pretty big, ambience could improve though, you couldn't really think properly in there. By the way there is parking around the corner of the restaurant too.
