I tried a big lamb in pastry thing here once that was disgusting. Also had the combination noodles that were kinda boring and the seafood and pork lightly fried dumplings not so great. So I'll stick to the pork and chive lightly fried dumplings that I eat here all the time, they are amazingly great, the best in Sydney.
If you are after a solid sit down meal and lengthy chat with your significant other. Head elsewhere. In fact, you probably do not even need to be told that. The view from the front says it all.
Chinese Noodle Restaurant would have to be one of Sydney's best dumpling houses. The service is quick, very quick. In fact, do not stop eating or your bill will arrive and that will be that. However, it is well worth the wait out the front, the twists and body contortion needed to be seated and the evil eyes you will get from the woman at the door.
If you like dumplings, close your eyes, grin and bear the service and just be glad that they are awfully good and awfully cheap.
Lovely tasting food especially the Spicy eggplant stir fry, and the bbq lamb, strong with cumin flavours. Good, homemade dumplings. Service fairly abrupt but this is a formica tabled café not a plush restaurant. Only drawback, I can't prove that there was masses of MSG, but I'm pretty sensitive to it and I was feeling spacey all night afterwards. Will give it another try to test the MSG levels.
Tonight, we had pork and chive dumplings, diced chicken with hand made noodles and tofu with preserved egg. This was an excellent meal. The food was well prepared, came out in good time, and each dish was a decent sized serving. The ambience is pretty average, but the service was friendly and unobtrusive. The cost was not bank breaking, so seeing that this place is so close to the city, it's a great stopping off point. Highly recommended.
Great cheap place to eat out. Beware if ordering takeaway as it's a bit slow (10-15 min) - you seem to get food quicker if you're eating in. Love the pork and chive dumplings, spring pancakes and eggplant dishes. Yes - not for the high brow and princesses amongst us but great!
Always looking for great value, this restaurant did not disappoint. Incredibly delicious flavours. Service is average. This will be a regular haunt for us.
If you come here it is going to be cramped inside, if you expect the same service, as you would get in a 5 star hotel, you will be disappointed, but if you want traditional handmade noodles, this is the place to get them. I have eaten here a couple of times, and it has always been good, the handmade noodles are similar to what you would eat in Shanghai, very nice. So if chipped tea pots annoy you and cramped tables do too, you may want to look elsewhere, but if you want darn good dumplings, no MSG, very traditional fair, I would recommend this place.
Easily the best dumplings in Sydney. I've been going here for ages and one of the waitresses actually smiled at me the other day, I almost fell off my stool!
If you're the kind of person who is offended by chipped teapots and fast service, don't go here. However, if you're the kind of person who wants to eat excellent food at ridiculously good prices (and who appreciates that authentic Chinese ambience won't be all smiles and white tablecloths) then DO! It's the best, hands down. Braised eggplant is to die for!
I absolutely love this place! especially if you are on a student budget. Dumplings, hand-made noodles and the shredded pork with pancakes are a must try!!
However, be prepared for the unfriendly service and the chipped cutlery. This doesn't stop the place from being packed. Good value for money!
