The service was interesting and quite funny. The waiter was very helpful and with his limited english would always use an odd descriptive word in each sentence. 'Thats beautiful' 'Thats perfect.' Quite an odd character but nevertheless a major factor in our positive experience here.
This place is massive, plenty of space for those busy days although we happened to catch them on a quiet night. Plenty of food to choose from on their menu and the seafood was obviously fresh (still in their tanks). No too sure my wallet liked this place though.
Food - was very good. It definitely tastes like the ones I've frequented when I was back in Hong Kong. The only thing that I was sort of disappointed about is the skin of the dumplings. They are not quite as delicate.
Ambience - It really was like being in Hong Kong with the food being carried on trolleys. Noise level in a yumcha place is always loud. That's what you expect from a yumcha place anyway.
Service - the lack of English was sort of hard for us although a lot of the ladies pushing the trolleys were happy for us to peek at the food to choose. We weren't being rushed to leave the premise either, even though it was hard trying to catch the waitress' attention to get the bill.
The only other thing was with one of the senior staff. He was picking his nose and that was quite disgusting. He was standing in the middle of the room as well, so I don't know how many people ended up seeing it.
Value - nose picking aside, I think the yum cha lunch was definitely a good value. I've returned there at least twice in the past 3 months despite living a bit far from the place.
The food is very very good and has a variety and freshness to it that is different to other Yum Cha. But dining is more than just the food, it's service and value too that can change the pleasant taste of food into something quite sour.
The service was quite appalling, the very limited command of English became quite problematic, there's only so much nodding and smiling that can occur! But was really disappointing was the bill! To pay $12.50 for a pot of tea was outrageous! I've rarely been charged for tea and never at that price! And then when the children wanted lemonade we were charged $4! for a can of lemonade. Unacceptable. When we tried to complain, we just got the friendly smiles and nods (yes we understand what you're saying but we're going to pretend not to!).
I will never go back here again and if you care about the whole dining experience and if you have more sense than money, then I vehemently advise you to go elsewhere!
Had yum cha here on Thursday. Service was good, friendly and efficient. Ambience was good too. Food, the various gow gee (har gow, gow choi gow, cheong fan, etc) had very 'stodgy' rice flour. Also quite salty, and, perhaps, quite a bit of msg too. I thought the food was quite mediocre. I wouldn't return to this restaurant again.
My husband and I wanted peking duck and went to Market City. Initial experience was ok until we called a waitress wearing black uniform if she could make sure the suckling pig cart come to see us since it by passed us thrice already and we were ready to go. She said yah yah yah turned around and spoke in Cantonese. Few minute later, we again ask if we could order suckling pig and she said yah yah yah did nothing again and spoke cantonese while she busy herself elsewhere.
So we stood up and leave. I complained to the senior staff who did nothing. After paying our bill, we were about to reach the end of the cashier when we remembered to have our parking validated. We saw the cashier, laughing with another waitress at us bec of our complaint. No one apologized of their rudeness, nor did the senior staff do anything. How can they allow people who cannot speak english, all the more so rude to be front liners in talking to customers.
Peking duck was oily and not crunchy. Some dishes were ok but there was too much msg. We expect better service and quality of food since the price is not cheap.
We decided on trying the yum cha after reading reviews here. The service was quick and staff very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely until we realised it was all packed with MSG and wanted to drink everything in sight. It's a shame restaurants need to use MSG as it's not a pleasant ending to a meal. Won't be going back in a hurry.
Not the best yum cha place in the city but quite alright. It takes a while to get a table on a weekend morning. You can't really browse market city during the wait since they "not know when" your table will be ready. The trolley people are rather considerate in trying to explain what the dish is in English by using keywords such as 'pork', 'pork', 'prawn', 'pork', 'chicken feet'. The chicken feet is actually quite tasty, scary in presentation and concept but not bad in taste.
The price is fair for its location. The restaurant looks and is crowded but not too dirty in its appearance. Do not use the toilet unless your bladder is about to burst. There is a slightly cleaner Market City toilet on the same level. For this restaurant toilet, expect shoe marks on the seat as well as reminiscent of food and other toilet activity of previous occupants.
Took a while to get initially served for yum cha on a sunday but we did choose to go on the busiest day of the week. Staff were polite and accommodating. Food was amazing, best dumplings ever, highly recommend the spinach and snowpea steamed dumplings. The steamed pork buns were also extremely nice and the curd balls were filled with the most delicious centres I have eaten at a yum cha so far.
Was very impressed with how fresh the food was kept while being served to the customers. Will definitely be going back to this restaurant, a lovely day out considering it took me 2 trains and a bus to venture out to try it.
I went here with my mum and brother for lunch. The food was great and the value was excellent! I have been to yum cha before but this had much more variety than I am used to. The only thing was the service was not great. We would be waiting around for so long for food until we would have to go up and ask them to come around or occasionally they would come our way. Also they didn't seem to understand what we were asking for. Would still go again though for the food.
Went for dimsum on Easter Saturday and were fortunate to beat the crowd. I was disappointed to be honest. Dim sum is of such a high standard in general here in Sydney so I guess I am being picky. Some of the dumplings were quite sticky and the range was not as vast as some of my Chinatown favourites. It was a pleasant experience overall but I enjoy dim sum at other places more.
