I ate there on the 18th Feb 2008 was a lovely, sunny day. A little hot but the owners can't do anything about the weather. I had the chicken and avocado sandwich it was to die for. I have the banana smoothie which was great. The staff were very helpful and not at all pushy. They were great, the best I have had in a long time. Unfortualtely they ran out of the wagu so I will have to go back to try it.
We ate here on 27th December, a lovely sunny day. It was a nice location, away from the hubub of the main Avalon intersection, and were promptly escorted to a table in the dappled shade of the garden. My mint and ginger tea came in a cute iron pot. I had a delicious haloumi salad for lunch, the tuna melt also looked nice, and the tea sandwiches were cute but a little on the pricey side, at $13.
The hueveros rancheros looked amazing, I'll have that next time! We had an enjoyable time, service was attentive and friendly and I would come back. Note that it has Avalon prices though, so you wouldn't go for a bargain, but the food is very nice.
Having enjoyed our first experience here we decided to return. Definitely won't be bothering again! The sandwiches arrived over 45 minutes after ordering - the portions and quality of food was poor. The "reason" it took 45 minutes for two sandwiches were that there were 2 groups (of 6 people each) that arrived after we were seated! Don't know why we bothered to wait, several other tables waiting as long as us got up and left.
Judging by some of the reviews/comments some people have unrealistic expectations. Great food for the price, don't expect great service if it's packed and you will enjoy freash, quallity produce at VERY affordable prices.
This is a fantastic place for breakfast. The huevos rancheros are delicious and the sourdough toast with avocado, poached egg and salsa verde perfect. The service can be a bit hit and miss but the "garden" setting more than makes up for it.
The food is amazing if you know anything about lovingly prepared fresh ingredients. Not the usual "Bills" Food that everyone else churns out at cafes around Sydney. Everyone in the Northern Beaches buys pre prepared warmed up package food and thinks it's a good value. The Chelsea Tea House is the only place north of Dish with any talent in the kitchen or any concept of good food. If you want a crap bacon and egg roll for 2.50 then the Tea House is not the place for you.
Very disappointed with the food. Saturday night menu small but looked interesting. Portions small and lacked creativity for the price. Would not recommend for dinner.
