At Chedi Thai Restaurant we cater for large groups and functions or private dinners for two. Our seating plan can be arranged to suit parties or individuals and we are delighted to welcome family groups and kids of all ages to experience Thai food.
Elegant and sophisticated, Chedi is all about quality. With a menu that blends traditional Thai cuisine with modern fresh flavours; a carefully selected wine list that offers both value and taste; and a beautifully designed restaurant with impeccable table service, Chedi delivers a true fine dining experience well beyond its mid range price.
Carefully prepared, beautifully presented dishes of note include the Fish Soufflé Steamed in Banana Leaf and the succulent Musamun Beef Curry - the standard and the value of these dishes sets Chedi apart from the many Thai restaurants situated on busy King Street in Newtown.

If you want quick easy 'fast' Thai - don't go to Chedi. If you want an authentic Thai experience that combines delicious native recipes with fast, friendly, and professional service then of course Chedi is the only answer. There's a big variety of Thai in Newtown, and you'll chose different restaurants based on mood and taste. While it might not be hard to find a decent meal, or good service, or good atmosphere, it's rare to find all of these in one place. I'm a lazy guy so I just chose Chedi every time and there's no risk.
I'm still trying to figure out how a small morsel of meat from the Thai Beef Salad could trigger a Mardi Gras on my tongue. I had to chase it with a sip of Coconut Juice just to calm down. Don't get me started on the Pad Thai Tofu, Prawn, Chicken, or Beef - just try it and *I'll* refund your money if you don't like it.
If you enjoy your wines then let the friendly owner, Greg, chose a glass of red, white, or somewhere in between for you from his superior Wine list. He'll even put it on the house if you've had a rough day. I don't have time to mess around finding the right Thai in Newtown. Go with the best - Chedi - from the start and you can worry about something else, like impressing the person sitting across from you.

We went here for Valentine's dinner (don't ask me why - nearly dumped my boyfriend over this) and the entire evening was pretty horrible. The place was packed, couldn't flag down a waiter to get seated let alone served once we were finally seated. It took us 20-25 minutes to get our order taken after waving at every passing waiter which was often ignored. The table next to us had been waiting even longer so when one finally came, we had to let them order first at which point the waiter disappeared for another 5 minutes and only came once we flagged them down again. To be fair, the food came out quickly in comparison. It was pretty standard Thai food - not bad but not great. I would not recommend going here and I have to say I am pretty shocked at some of the reviews here. This place is not authentic or good Thai.

Great restaurant - excellent food and warm friendly service - a favorite with the George Institute crowd. Always feel welcome and staff go out of their way to please. Been there over a dozen times and yet to be disappointed except when they aren't open on a Monday.

My first visit to Chedi and I loved it. The food was amazing, so fresh and so yummy. After eating my entree I couldn't finish all my main but it did not sit for long as 2 friends shared the rest. The wine complemented the food perfectly and the service was great. Thank you for a great night I can't wait to come back.

I have visited Chedi 5 times now with 5 different groups of friends. We have all ordered a wide variety of food and wine and all have been very enthused with the quality, ambience and friendly service. Great seating arrangements give that intimate and private feel to your table. I'm looking forward to returning. Highly recommended.

A very popular restaurant, packed out and we had to wait a while to get our main dishes however, the Aramia wine kept us more than happy and the main dishes were worth the wait. Overall a really nice Thai experience, will go again.

Had a dinner there on Saturday night. Food is very good, well sized portions. But my advice - never go to Chedi on Saturday night if you want to have a proper service. Restaurant was completely packed, very noisy and for about 100 people there were only 3 or 4 waiters, who looked absolutely confused and exhausted.
We ended up waiting for our order for more than an hour and after a few reminders to the owner, we have finally received our meals. Will definitely not going there again on Saturday night.

Noted that the size of portions is dwindling, whilst prices are rising, they have moments of greatness here with Basil Chilli Beef coming in as the fave. Entrees have declined somewhat in quality (especially those money bags!) but overall I find it well priced and service is exceptional!

I dined here on a Saturday night. Decor is warm and elegant, and the touch of two garden roses on each table was a lovely touch. The food was very good indeed. Fresh, crunchy, simple flavours and beautifully presented. Green curry chicken was one of the best we have had. The crispy skin tamarind chicken light, the sauce not too sweet and overpowering. Would have liked to see a few more interesting vegetarian options on the menu though. Portions are not big, but satisfying enough if you are not ravenous. We would go back.
