I love love love this restaurant. The best of its kind for the value of food they offer. Don't be turned off by the daggy, out-of-date decor. Great dumplings. Try the pan-fried pork and chives. YUM! Try to steer away from the western-type offerings. Try the more traditional dishes.
This place used to be great and a regular for me and my family - it's gone downhill badly over the past year or so, food is now very ordinary and service patchy. not clear why as the owner seems to still be the same but i won't be going any more after 3 bad experiences.
Went there based on reviews on this site. Very Very mediocre. Had prawn cutlets for starters. Rubbery stringy shrimp that tasted like it came out of the microwave. And $14!!!! for 4. You wouldn't expect such quality at a cheap local takeaway fish and chip shop. Picnic chicken and crispy noodle main were even more disappointing. The meat was stale and salty, the noodles soaked in oil. The only saving grace was the vegetarian dumplings, and were it not for this dish, I would give it 1/10.
Service was non existent. Was actually overcharged 25 dollars and had to point it out to the wait staff. With so many excellent Chinese eateries around Sydney, how this restaurant does business is a mystery.
Went expecting Yum Cha on Sunday but they didn't have it, however the selection of buns, rolls and dumplings we ordered were tasty and reasonably priced. A tad over fifty bucks for three hungry people.
I've been coming to this restaurant for years and I absolutely love it. The stir-fried combination noodles are among the best I have tasted, and if you have the time, it's definitely worth trying the traditional dim sims and buns etc. They have very well priced set menus for lunch, but I usually like going for dinner. Their lobster is awesome, and they have a slow cooked duck dish with taro which is my absolute favourite. You have to order it in advance but the meat just falls off the bone and its perfect, I haven't found it anywhere else. Their sweet and sour fish with pine nuts is awesome, I get cravings for it all the time. Don't get me started on the dessert menu:The sago pudding with red bean, and the glutinous rice balls with black sesame are to die for. The owner's wife makes them fresh every day. The fried red bean fritters are also popular. Basically: Awesome authentic Chinese food. Definitely not a trendy place, but I love it all the same.
