A decent place to come when absolutely nothing else is open...haha I kid I kid...but seriously I would not recommend unless you are extremely hungry.
Ok firstly, decor: for some reasons they have decided it is good for the person who is sitting on the booth along the wall to be seated approx. 30cm lower than the person sitting opposite on a seat..weird I know!!
Secondly: If you aren't offered a booth don't bother as the ambience isn't particularly spectacular and you don't really want the restaurant and the rest of the patrons in your field of vision.
Lastly: The patrons aren't exaclty the type you would associate with Chinese fine dining so if you are after a more refined type of clientele then it might be better you give this a miss.
Otherwise 2 thumbs up for effort!! Thank you boyss!!
Awful ambience, very noisy and dirty. Grease over the floor, almost slipped over. Brown coloured water which they call tea (no tea leaves). Try not to dine there, just buy takeaways. Overrated shop in Chatswood- prices keep going up to the point that it is no longer good value.
Avoid the Hong Kong style spaghetti or baked rice dishes if you don't want to feel bloated for the next 3 days.
As far as HK style eateries go, this place is pretty decent. Nobody really cares about the ambience. Its noisy and full of chatter as expected of any Chinese place. Service can be a little gruff although the maitre d' does his best to keep things hospitable.
The food is ok. I'd say their Cantonese roasts are alright. The pork is what I usually order although the duck should be reasonably popular. I've had better but not in Sydney. The rest of their a la carte isn't really good though. Distinctly average even if relatively tasty. Its typically corn starchy sauces, woody veg, frozen meats etc etc. If you do go, just get the roasts, you can't go wrong with that. The rest can be skipped. Ok if you live around the area like me.
Stopped in here for dinner on a Tuesday night, with a craving for Peking duck. They didn't disappoint; the duck pancakes and san choi bao were great. We followed it up with some salt and pepper calamari and a vegetable dish, both very generous serves and quite tasty.
I'm a bit confused about this because both this site and the SBS good food guide list Chatswood BBQ Kitchen as 377 Victoria, when in fact it looks as if that's BBQ King. BBQ Kitchen looks like it's directly across the road at 308 Victoria. Anyway, we ate at the place calling itself BBQ Kitchen, and it was all right, really, nothing special. Usual chinese stir fry in gloopy sauce, BBQ duck was OK but no nicer than that I've had in the Haymarket.
Popular restaurant with good food but poor atmosphere. We had dinner with roast duck, Chinese broccoli and eggplant with seafood, all of which were great. The serving of broccoli was very generous compared to other restaurants. Next time we want to try the duck served 2 ways, firstly in Peking duck pancakes, and then secondly in lettuce leaves as sang chow bao. Only $22 and it looked really nice. It's the kind of place that you want to just get in and get out of though!
A convenient place to eat in Chatswood. Fast speedy lunch time service. It's just like the many eating nooks you find in Malaysia, Hong Kong, etc. Not as cheap as eating in the Mandarin Centre but it has natural lighting. Good choice of dishes. Highly recommended for that authentic (good for you) Chinese fast food feel.
