Overview
Situated in a sleek open space with exposed brick walls and wooden beams, dark and sleek lines and lofty mezzanine dining level overlooking the main floor. The front kitchen is bustling and opens for all to see and smell.
Amazing value, read Joanna Savill's SMH review below, its spot on. Authentic fresh thai food, good ambience and consistently very busy, however, you can still talk. Its open daily from 10 am until 2 am, Sydney needs more places like this. Note its BYO no licence, surprisingly it has reasonable wine glasses.
This place is definitely a contender for the best Thai food in Sydney. The menu is truly different to the standard Thai restaurant in Australia, with a lot of dishes that are unusual and imaginative. The menu is always changing.
On the last visit, we picked some of the specials, an absolutely delicious crispy egg pancake folded over vegetables, sprouts and tofu. We also had a variant of massaman curry, made with pork and with the spices tweaked somewhat. Also had a crispy barramundi with mango salad. The Mu Ping was absolutely first rate. To finish, we had an absolutely divine Thai egg dessert.
This place has never failed to deliver outstanding food. The only annoyance is having to wait for a table, a testament to the popularity of the place. The place can get quite busy and can feel marginally claustrophobic, but with food as good as this it really doesn't matter. If you are a fan of great food, this place must be on your list.
This is definitely a good place to go for great Thai food and value for money. The service could be slightly better, especially for the tables at the 1st floor. People seated there tend to be missed and unattended at busy hours. Best Thai food experience for my friends and I.
I ate here about 2 weeks ago on Sunday with my husband and friends. First time arrived, the restaurant so crowded (maybe because Sunday) then we got the sit for about 7ppl. The restaurant so small so I have to fold my pram and put on the entrance.
Firstly, they gave us a menu then after that the waitress coming to take the order.
The food was yummy and simple and clean. The worst things are long wait to have a food and the waitress so rude. While me and my friends already get the food, my husband still waiting waiting and waiting for his food. We think they might forgot his food. I asked the waitress for my hubby food, and she said is coming soon. The we wait about 10 minutes, still not coming.
I asked again and she checked on her small PDA and she said it coming soon. And again we wait for another 10 minutes until all the food on the table are finished and my hubby still not get his food. Finally, I asked again and the answer so rude :"So, do you still want the food or no?". That answer very very rude, even she didnt say sorry to us.
How come famous restaurant in city have rude waitress like that? I'm very disappointed, because my hubby very hungry and already passion to wait for more than 20 minutes and the dish he ordered the same dish with one of my friend and my friend already finished her dish while my hubby still wait with empty stomach.
So my suggestion, make sure you check your order and keep asking every minute if your order not coming. Good luck.
Went there the other day and the restaurant service was horrible. There's no point writing your name down to get a table because it would not be done properly.
We have been waiting for 20 minutes and seats were given another group of people who came later than us. As for the worst part, when we complained there was no apology but more excuses from the waitress. The shocking excuse we received was that those people were really hungry so they deserved our seats first. Wow, how can you do that? So we left with disappointment and empty stomachs.
Previously we've been regular customers because the food was great and it's convenient, however, after this horrible incident we won't be going back anymore unless they started treating their customers with respect.
Lots of variety of Thai food. I like their lunch menu. Very authentic but a bit disappointed with the Tom Yum Soup as it is mild to suit local's liking.
Food is always good. Does not allow reservation. I always have to wait for at least 1 hr unless I arrive really early for lunch (before 11:30am) or dinner (before 6pm).
Will definitely recommend friend as the food is great!
I got to eat at Chat Thai today after hearing so much about it ever since I arrived in Sydney. Maybe my expectations was too high, but the food is a major disappointment. I can't remember the dish I ordered, but it was some rice with minced pork and french beans, a kind of fish with a chili mix topping, a pork rib sour soup and a satay.
The satay was good and the soup was ok but I've had better in Chili Cha Cha although it's kinda oily there. The rice, however, is horrible! There isn't enough meat, and too much rice. And to make it worse, the whole meat dish has little taste. The one I had in Thainatown is much better! The fish looks delicious, but the taste does not measure up to its appearance.
I will probably go there again and try other dishes as it's quite a good value for money, but I'm steering clear of the ones ordered today.
Can't say enough about this place, really great environment for a casual and lively get together with a group of friends. Food is always fresh and flavoursome but not too rich, its hard to go wrong here. The desserts is only one of the reasons why we keep coming back, many you can't find elsewhere in Sydney!
