Celini’s Café & Restaurant was established in 1997 by successful restaurateur Mr. Sam Varvaridis. Originally a Greek restaurant Celini’s went through periods of success and short fall coinciding with the demographic changes of Marrickville and two other managements. In July 2003 we, Gulay Karci and team saw the same vision of Sam’s new beginning in Celini’s and decided to continue and enhance the Café/Restaurant. In this time we have managed to establish the restaurant as one of Marrickville’s popular local spots for a scrumptious Turkish dish and warm service.
Being the only Authentic Turkish Cuisine Restaurant in Marrickville we stand true to the meaning of our name ‘Celini’s’, by introducing and providing new beginnings in our restaurant, service and food.
Celini’s is also the only licensed Authentic Turkish Café/Restaurant in Marrickville, opening 7 days a week and most nights until late. Catering for up to 100 people at any one time, Celini’s creates its own niche in the local hospitality market.

I visited for dessert after dinner at another restaurant near by. I had the best hot chocolate EVER and the Baclava hit the spot too! Thanks.
We had my brothers 21st at Celini's and it was fantastic! The food was delicious and plenty for all the guests (more than 100) it came out quickly and the whole evening ran so smoothly. It was very reasonably priced and the service was excellent with attentive staff who all made sure everybody had a wonderful time, and all the guests agreed that everything was wonderful including the surprise bouzouki player they arranged for part of the night. It was a wonderful experience and I'd definitely go there again.
We enjoyed an excellent lunch at Celinis yesterday. Our salmon cutlet was cooked to perfection and so too was the mixed grill. Everything was tender and juicy and full of flavour.
The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. Although this restaurant is a long way from where we live, we would love to dine there again.
A great local cafe, which deserves to be better known. They know how to cook their meat tender and rare. The ozgara platter for 2 is a bargain and the foccacia serves are huge. The hoummos is some of the best I've tasted. The staff are friendly and attentive without being over-your-shoulder. It may be a bit crowded on belly-dancer nights but we were made to feel completely welcome. Prices are extremely good value, which is more than you can say for most Sydney restaurants. Add this one to your list!
Hey great place. Its sad Marrickville road is so busy and grid locked it can get a bit poluted especially sitting outside but the breakfast is a must, the coffee is great and the other meals are wonderful too. Its a pity they aren't open every night. Thanks for the great food guys.
I went only on 24th Feb at the birthday party and enjoyed myself there. You can see the crowd is enjoying the performance of the dancer and musicians at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIhemk2WOqI
The area of improvement needs to be in the organisation. If you put out mezza on the tables like in a Lebanese restaurant people are going to except it to be all you can eat. The mezza should only have been brought out when a majority of the booked group is there otherwise you will have other people sit down from other tables to eat someone else's food.
It is quite expensive there compared to Lebanese places but is comparative to other Turkish restaurants. The quality of the meats was very good. At some cheaper places the meat comes out dry and burnt. You get what you pay for. Probably should have a different price for vegetarian banquets.
As an ex Sydney chef, I dined at this restaurant the other night with a group of friends for the first time. We had planned a birthday dinner and the restaurant offered us a set menu for a fixed price. We made the booking and agreed to the price for their set menu. Much to our disgust, the owners increased the cost per head the day before we were due to dine, however, we accepted as we had a large group booking and did not wish to make changes at the last minute.
The restaurant featured live musicians, but the venue was much too small to accommodate both diners and musicians. The owners had bi-fold doors out on to the street, which they shut and bolted, so guests had to enter through a single side door. This meant that over 100 diners were crammed into a single shop front venue, with no means of escape apart from climbing through the crowded tables to reach the door at the back of the venue.
I felt extremely claustrophobic (not a common phobia!) and wondered how guests would escape in an emergency. For dinner, we were served 3 small bread plates (not bowls) of dip with bread and were given a bowl of fresh salad. As we are vegos, we requested no meat and were served 2 tasteless cabbage rolls for mains and one unidentifiable object with a similar stuffing. It was almost inedible.
Dessert for 3 people at our table was 4 tiny slices of Baklava. We were offered coffee, but declined. For this, we were charged $40/head, i.e. $120.00 for dinner for 3, plus $2.50/head for corkage. I have dined in restaurants around the world for over 30 years, but have never felt so ripped off in my life. I argued about paying this amount for the bill and was told that I had to pay for "the professional musicians".
My friend who organised the function was a professional musician and made several guest appearances throughout the night. There were 2 other musicians apart from her and 2 belly dancers (one of whom would have more at home at a Penrith leagues club!) As the restaurant features live performances each month, I wondered if the a la carte diners were being charged for "the professional musicians"?
The acoustics were dreadful and the noise was unbearable. We were unable to carry on a normal conversation and the service was very slow to non-existent. Definitely not an experience to be repeated!!
Excellent food and service. Some tables on the footpath which was also great. Extremely helpful owners/staff. Best Baklava ever (made by the family) - better than tasted in Pergamon in Turkey.
The interior is fairly modern and clean that has been decorated with Turkish items. What surprised me was how good the food was. The meat on my mixed grill was succulent that was placed on a bed of cracked wheat which was divine. They even had live Arabic music and a belly dancer on the night I was there.
