Update : I used to think the food was amazing. They changed owner late last year so I downgrade my rating from 9/10 to 2/10. The food is disgusting and tastes like you are eating raw bland soy beans. Yuck!!! They also removed the beautiful lovely tables and chairs and replaced with the generic Asian restaurant variety. I wonder if they sold them on eBay to cover their losses, not nearly as busy as it used to be.
This place was absolutely amazing and ten million times better than Green Gourmet Newtown. The surroundings were beautiful, the walls were partly covered in bamboo and they had these amazing wooden tables and chairs (with cushions for comfort) that looked like tree stumps. The food was fantastic. I had the soy (not) chicken with lemon grass and chilli and it was absolutely beautiful. My partner who is a meat eater and generally hates these sorts of places had soy (not) fish with ginger sauce and it was shaped like a fish and was slightly crispy on the outside and tender in the middle, so had the texture of fish with out the yucky taste. I would recommend it to everyone and both of us can't wait to go back. The mains are priced between $12 and $15.50 which was very good considering the quality. Not oily at all either!
I went here when I was vegan and it was awful! the food in particular was not at tastebud-friendly and I clearly remember one of the dishes tasted like oil, soysauce and white rubber! The restaurant's seating + tables was at the most a very good idea aesthetically. However, the stumps that were meant to be chairs were very very uncomfortable. I remember my stumpseat being extremely unstable and nearly keeling over if I even moved slightly.
Being a vegetarian, it is always a pleasure finding a restaurant that caters to my needs. The food however, was very bland and the choices disappointing.
Great food and great value. The staff are very friendly and the service is second to none. My only complaint is that those wonderful 'tree stump' seats that everyone is raving about are a bit on the unconfortable side. Maybe I should bring my own cushion.
This place is fantastic! The food is delicious, creative and beautifully presented (definitely try the pandan soy chicken and the soy fish with special sauce, also the soy beef entree..forget what it's called), and the staff are so warm and friendly. As mishwarner said, it's definitely better than Green Gourmet, and more reasonably priced too.
I also loved this place. It has a kind of weird atmosphere, but the staff were fantastic and the food was divine! I am a Vegetarian but my fellow diner wasn't and we both enjoyed it equally as much! The "Prawns" on skewers were actually really good, as was everything we tried. Please you could BYO and it was inexpensive. Loved it!!
