Went here mid-week recently for a friend's birthday. Loved the bruschetta - some of the best that I've had for a while and the light and fluffy whitebait fritters. Everything else was good, yummy, and certainly well executed, but not really that memorable.
I thought that the service was pretty good though - we were a group of about 20, which isn't easy to handle, but I think that they pulled it off well. Maybe I should have gone for a pizza - the happiest people at our table were eating them.
One gripe - why is all the "good stuff" left for the Specials Board? I read through the menu and was totally underwhelmed by, well, everything until I checked out the blackboard. Make sure that you have a good look before you order.
The food is very good but not exceptional. Good servings. I think the seafood specials are a speciality as they were the best dishes out of the 10 different dishes we had. The pasta was very nice and freshly made. The sauces could have had a little more care. The pizzas were very very good. The veal and chicken dishes were good.
The service is outstanding - charming, efficient, attentive. Love the fact that the corkage charge is only $1 per person and that they didn't charge us to bring in our own cake. Made a huge fuss over our (Italian) 80 year old Mum. Go for the service and good home made Italian food.
We are locals and get pizzas delivered from here all the time - sensational! Made with such loving care! Have had dinner in there once too, food was excellent, would help if the lights were a little dimmer - they were very bright for a weekend dinner night. Love the Italian waiters who have so much character.
Went here for the first time a few weeks ago - took the kids plus a couple of relatives for a Sunday lunch and we all loved it. The waiter suggested we start with a mix of various seafood - mussels in the most delicious napoletana sauce with just a hint of chilli (the kids loved the complimentary freshly baked bread that was given to us to mop up the sauce), calamaris, garlic prawns, bbq baby octopus - all delicious.
The kids then had pizza, and some penne napoletana, one had gnocci (divine!) - they all agreed it was the best ever. Amongst the adults we had a veal scallopini dish - too big to finish; a pasta marinara, a home made fettucine with ragu and Italian sausage and a prawn, garlic oil and chilli linguine. We were then served complimentary limoncello to sip on. We couldn't fit dessert. We will go back again and again. Outstanding!
It has been a while since I was at Castel Mola and when I walked in on a saturday night I was impressed. It almost seemed it was the first time I went there. Food and service were already extraordinary. Now, Castel Mola with its new look became one of the best Italian restaurant in Sydney.
Service keeps being unbeatable with a real Italian atmosphere and who's been there knows what I'm talking about. The food is fantastic and the pizzas with the new style of cooking, are second to none, including woodfire pizzas.
Castel Mola is one of those rare places where owner and staff care about your dining and and will always find a way to improve it. They also started opening on sunday lunches... Guess where I'll have my next family lunch? Keep it up guys, you are doing a terrific job!
Castel Mola is one of the best Italian restaurants in Sydney. The food is always delicious and authentic. You are always guaranteed great service and good value for money and the freshly renovated restaurant makes it an even more enjoyable place to share a meal with friends! Keep up the great work Joe!!!!
Had my daughter's christening there. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent. Joe and his team are great and always smiling. Would recommend this restaurant to everybody.
I have only eaten at this resturant once, but based on my experience here I'd be happy to go back. I ordered the lamb cutlets and my partner ordered the veal escalope. We both enjoyed our meals, the meat was very tasty and skillfully cooked, although I'm not convinced that the lamb was strictly a traditional Italian dish. Also lamb could have done with a couple of extra potatoes on the plate to make it more substantial, but this is my only criticism.
The delicious tiramisu is in the top 3 I've ever eaten, and I say that having lived in Italy and eaten tiramisu in resturants up and down the country. Overall, this is a lively resturant with friendly Italian service where you get good food for a reasonable price. Definately worth a try.
We have eaten at Castel Mola on several occasions, including booking the room for our daughter's 21st birthday which we jammed in about 22 people. This is one of the very best casual yet elegant Italian restaurants in Sydney. Joe, the owner visits all the tables to ensure people are enjoying themselves and that the service is efficent but with dash of good humour. This is a resturant where you feel the waiters and waitresses enjoying themselves.
As for the menu, we have eaten just about eveything on the menu - hard to say which is our favourites although the veal dishes possibly take first place (but then again - nothing like a heavily laced garlic pizza!). Portions are generous, like the service.
Our book club meets here every month - Jo and those gorgeous waiters look after us so well. We keep coming back because the food is great and the service is excellent and the chef will basically cook anything you like without too much fuss.
The specials don't change very often and the list of regular items is not too daunting. The pizzas are brilliant, the pasta fresh and the veal divine. Oh and try the fig and honey ice cream.
