I went to Casa de Goa with a group of ten friends and we had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was great. We had the pork sausage, chicken rissoles and stuffed pappadums for entrees. All were fabulous. The stuffed pappadums were unique but beautiful, I would definitely recommend them.
For mains we had lamb cutlets, the chicken xacuti, lamb curry and the pork sorpatel along with yellow rice. Again all the food was brilliant and the servings were huge. The bebinca was a tantalizing taste, it is a layered cake which we had for dessert. The chef describes it as “it’s not a cake, it’s not a pudding it’s just delicious!" which it indeed was. Very difficult to describe but it was absolutely divine.
I highly recommend this restaurant, it was a great place to eat, brilliant value for money and I will definitely go again.
The place still looks like a Dutch restaurant that it originally was. The chairs are also ugly and there was no paper in the toilets to wipe hands. The service was quite good though. I think leave the bizarre complimentary chicken soup out, it looks like dirty dish washing water with an olive and piece of cheese in it.
The lamb and stuffed pappadums were nice. Yellow rice was not though. Also a lot of entrees came out that we think we didn't order. The kids had the lamb cutlets which they said were terrible. They left a lot of them. It wasn't a disaster but the atmosphere and the food was a bit disappointing.
We all tried to guess how much it would be and it was another $200 more. We will never go back but we have tried it and will eat out elsewhere next time.
We ate at Casa De Goa on Saturday as a bit of a treat to ourselves. Never having eaten here before we picked the restaurant on the great reviews and also the interesting menu. We weren't disappointed. When we arrived we were the only one in the restaurant, but we were greeted nicely, given menus and free chicken soup and left alone to look at the menu.
We had the fried oysters and stuffed pappadums, which were both fantastic. For main I had the chorizo casserole and my husband had the chicken. We also ordered some rice. My casserole was enormous and filling and fresh. Probably did not need to order the rice, but the rice was so good and huge as well for $3. My husband's chicken was very nice and came with a large plate of vegetables and salad. The marinade was spicy and again the ingredients were fresh.
Service is a little unpolished, but very friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit.
I had my 50th Birthday for 35 people at Casa De Goa on 24th May and it was fantastic. The room upstairs was thoughtfully prepared. Everybody was very friendly and went out of their way to ensure we all had a good time. I danced with both Caesar (waltz) and his wife Blanche (jive) so they were very personable. All of my guests said the food was great and thought the venue was excellent. I actually made all the arrangements from London where I am living and Caesar made that easy. As well he had guaranteed me a good night and he was correct. I would not hesitate to have another function there.
I came here with a rather large group and we loved it! The service was friendly and the food was delicious (as was the Sangria!!!). We all walked away satisfied and am sure that many of us will return to try more of the delights on offer! I highly recommend the Stuffed Pappadums, so tasty!
Food1e, judging by your comments on the owner, it sounds like you're one of the lovely people I see around who are terrified of interacting with anyone from outside of their circle of friends. The owner was a very friendly and interesting woman who actually taught me something about the stuff I was eating! She certainly liked to talk but she wasn't overbearing.
This isn't your standard stodgy food court style North Indian food, it's much better. The food was great, and I recommend the peri peri chicken. The menu is huge, but the staff will help you decide.
Try the traditional goan spirit made from cashew nuts. I forgot what it was called though. It's imported by them, so you won't find it in any bottle shops. Have it with lemonade, it's very strong. The babinka is also very nice, if you can fit it in!
To each his own, but "food1e" definitely does not know anything about the food from this part of India - a former Portuguese colony renowned for its cuisine.
This restaurant serves authentic Goan food. We were pleasantly surprised with the range of traditional Goan dishes on the menu. To start with we ordered the Stuffed Pappadum - great with the Cashew Feni and Sangria. The Sarapatel was as good as, if not better than, that available in GOA. Of course we also had the traditional sannas (rice buns). These had a good texture and flavour. The Chicken Cafreal was sublime. It has the spice and flavour without too much fire, perfect if you are not a chilli lover. The Bebinca is definitely up there with the best that we have tasted.
The service is friendly, prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous. Value for money - Definitely! We will be back to savour some more of the extensive menu.
This is the worst food I have ever eaten and I dine out a fair bit. It all tasted the same, awful, the kitchen staff did come out and explain to us that he uses coconut vinegar in his food, it was so bad. Quite expensive for what you are getting, definitely an acquired taste.
The service was good although the woman running it seemed so eager to please and wouldn't shut up. The Bibinca was probably the only nice thing we ate there. Would definitely never go back and would not recommend. The place is always empty when I drive back and on the odd occasion where I have seen people entering all I can say is NO!!
We had a group of 14 dine at this restaurant and the service was excellent. The owner/chef was helpful and recommended dishes that was a hit with everyone. We were relaxed and were not rushed into ordering or finishing up. The staff were courteous, friendly and always with a smile.
The chef's recommendation of the Peri Peri and Cafreal Chicken was simply perfect. Being accustomed to hot dishes, his "hot" dish was commendable.
I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who don't want to rush through a dinner, as this is the place to really feel at home. And the food, just excellent!!
Wow! - Sydney’s Best Goan Restaurant. I've been to quite a few times now and Casa De Goa most impressed on every occasion, have found the food to be exceptional and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
The food is carefully prepared and is perfectly balanced, delicious, generous meals and mouth-watering desserts. The prices were very reasonable, Hands down to my favourite Sydney restaurant. Thanks Pio (Owner/Chef).
