The team at Cala Luna welcomes you to try what we believe is some of the best Italian food in Sydney with a fantastic view.
http://www.calaluna.net.au/calaluna/
Cala Luna is one of the few restaurants in Sydney where food on the menu is sourced from the owner's farm in Bowral, in the Southern Highlands.
Our head chef has 15 years of Italian culinary experience and is constantly working to improve and maintain items on the menu.
We are open from Tuesday through to Sunday for lunch and dinner, 12pm and 6pm respectively.
Cala Luna is a family orientated, fine dining Italian restaurant with fantastic water views where the staff love being able to serve every guest as if they were in their own family home.
We invite you to dine with us at Cala Luna to experience some of the finest views and Italian food Sydney has to offer.

A great little find. Great place for a healthy meal and a few glasses of wine with the girls.
Response from Management:
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We offer a wide choice of antipasto that is great for lunch times with a glass or 3 of wine! At dinner we offer entrees which are great to share as well as a classic Italian antipasto plate that are great to accompany with a bottle of wine. Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you soon.

What a find! Read an excellent review and wanted to try it for ourselves. Ignore the unprepossessing entrance, the inside is cosy and atmospheric. Service very friendly, helpful and informative. I love going to places where the staff, both front of house and in the kitchen are passionate about their food, and Cala Luna is that sort of a place. It's really hard to choose what to order as both the specials and the regular menu are well thought out and sound delicious.
We were delighted with the quality of our prosecco (so often it is disappointing), and it was all uphill from there. I have read comments about small portion sizes and I would disagree. We have very healthy appetites and were amazed at the size of the suckling pig serve, it was so huge we only ate half and the staff obligingly put the rest into a takeaway box. We both then enjoyed a delicious porchetta roll with apple sauce the next day.
We can't wait to return and this time we'll do the degustation with matching wines. Hard to fault but please don't fill the place up, we want to be able to go whenever we like.
Response from Management:
Thanks for taking the time to post a review. I tend to agree that the front of the restaurant does not reflect the overall restaurant. We consistently trying to improve it t make it more welcoming with new tables etc so let us know what you think of improvements as you visit again!
Thanks for the comments with our wines we focus on good quality & value that show regional characteristics. In this case the prosecco is dry to start the meal. You enjoyed everything and that's really great and I will once again applaud the team that make this all possible.

There are 3 words that describe Cala Luna, sensational, sensational, sensational.
The service.
Of course the food was exceptional, add in perfect & unobtrusive service, pride & passion about the food & you get a whole "package" that delivers a knockout punch. It was if the goal of Cala Luna was to "deliver a perfect dining experience".
Back to the food. Pheasant from their own farm cooked impeccably (moist & tender), the calamari was so delicate & light I almost couldn't believe it was cooked in oil & the wine choices unique & interesting (Aussie & imported).
This one is now added to our personal list of "top 5 restaurants". Yes, of course we'll be back (again & again).
Response from Management:
Wow thanks for not only taking the time to post a review but
the kind words and such detail.. Grazie!! I am stumped for words you
have really covered it all but I will state that to achieve these standards
is impossible with out a great team and that's what is at Cala luna
breakfast lunch and dinner, staff that love what they do. This shines
through in the service and food and we are all glad that you enjoyed it!

We had a fabulous night at Cala Luna. Started with a Martini and Prosecco, brought our own bottle of old Pinot and paired it with some wonderful food. The lamb shoulder risotto was fantastic!
Response from Management:

Now that's a way to start a meal apperitiff etc.
Am glad that you enjoyed your experience at Cala luna and

We went this evening with our daughter (2yo). First thing, they didn't put us in the back corner of the restaurant usually on hold for those with prams. Hooray!
Food was really good. It was creative enough to give you a new experience, without trying too hard. Level of service was very high too, which was unexpected. I honestly thought, cafe style when I first walked in. I was wrong.
Sure the area is smaller than some restaurants, view isn't over the water etc but you are able to pick from a beautifully designed menu and service styled towards "chef hat" expectations - jmo - with minimal costs. I loved it.
Response from Management:
Thanks for taking the time to post a review it's really appreciated.
I am a family man myself and realise that with a family it's often hard to find good food. We welcome families with kids as we want to offer our great food to everyone inc. the young ones. We have a kids menu with house made pastas just done in a more kid friendly style.
The way that you have described our food is right on i believe and thank you for appreciating that. The service i have to thank my great staff at cala luna that are knowledgeable and most importantly of all friendly people, and that makes a huge difference.
Chefs Hat!!! we think we deserve one or least a mention in the good food guide??
anyway thanks for the review.

I organised a Christmas lunch for 12 people at Cala Luna and we had the pleasure of dining there today. I feel compelled to write this review after the lovely experience we had at Cala Luna.
We took advantage of the $49 3 course special which represents outstanding value. 3 on our table ordered the suckling pig (which is not on the lunch menu but Cala Luna kindly allowed us to order it at prior request for a $9 surcharge). It was extremely generous in portion and the crackling on the pig was out of this world. My husband ordered the 500g rib eye which he commented was the best rib eye he had ever eaten. This is saying a lot was we dine out frequently. All of the meat dishes were tender and flavoursome. The seafood dishes were also great, very fresh.
We ordered the full range of desserts. One of the standouts was the brulee duo (1x chocolate, 1x fig brulee). A great way to end an amazing meal. Every single person on our table of 12 was extremely satisfied with our meal and said they would like to return again in the future. Thank you we'll be back.
Response from Management:
Thank You you have taken the time to post a lengthy review and that is greatly appreciated. Your lunch sounds like it was enjoyable..
It really suprises me when people say that our portions are small we try and be such good value... The rib eye is from our farm and i am glad that you did enjoy it!! You have sumed it all up and thanks i could not say it better...
Thanks

I've dined at Cala Luna a few times and never been disappointed. Very attentive service, good quality food, and a menu where every dish sounds delicious, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who was considering it! My only regret is that the restaurant faces the road rather than the water, otherwise, it would be a 10/10!
Response from Management:
Thanks for taking the time to post your comments and write a review it's appreciated.
I and the team are glad that you have never been disappointed, and that you are fond of the way that our menu reads. These recommendations are great for us so thanks for that also... The view ?? Or lack of we have petitioned with the council to move the water closer and the road back but they just won't agree so it looks like we are stuck with Cala Luna where it is... The food, wine , ambiance are great though...

We had read the reviews and thought we'd give this one a try. The food was good, however, the portions were very small for the price that was charged. I'd be surprised if the portion of fish weighed 180g and the steak too. Very steep prices and no accompaniments to the food. We all left feeling hungry and dissatisfied. Another disappointment was the outlook, perhaps, the high prices would have been more palatable had the restaurant faced the water instead of the road.
Response from Management:
Thanks for taking the time to post a review, your feedback is appreciated and helps us continually improve our restaurant. I am disappointed that you did not enjoy experience at Cala Luna as we are always trying to offer the best value experience possible.
We only use the freshest fish available that we either source directly from the Markets or Northside Seafood and they are known for their superior quality. We source our meats mainly from our farm and we believe that they are simply the best available. Portion size I am sorry that the sizes where not adequate for $29.20 for our Fish and $31 for our eye fillet we generally portion to at least 180-200gm. If this was not the case I will definitely look into that for you. The food does also come with it's own condiments. The beef is with a potato terrine & Spinach and the fish is with cauliflower puree and preserved lemon gremolata. We do also supply complimentary vegetables of beans and potatoes with all mains.
I will work on this to make sure that all of the condiments are arriving to the tables correctly and sorry again for this dissatisfying experience but thanks for letting us know. The outlook however is something that we can not fix and simply state "that is Cala Luna" there is NO VIEW but we are always trying to give the best dining experiences possible.

Our group of six dined here last saturday night. One of our dining companions has some dietary exclusions due to health reasons, and the staff at Cala Luna were very accommodating. We all had the $49.00 eatability 3-course special, and weren't disappointed.
From the outset, the service was outstanding, and very friendly without being intrusive. We were served a lovely complementary soup as an amuse bouche. All courses were extremely generous, and the food was prepared with care and precision. The entree of scallops was perfectly cooked, and pasta beautifully al dente. The suckling pig was a treat, as was the melt-in-the-mouth lamb loin with fresh broad beans.
Dessert was also well crafted, particularly the pannacotta with strawberry and prosecco jelly, and the affogato, refined with vanilla bean ice cream, and a shot of frangelico on the side. The only negatives (and they are minor) were that the plates were always cleared before our whole table had finished eating (maybe they were short of plates?) and the restaurant gets very noisy by 8 pm. We will definitely be coming back, and will try the Limoncello next time!
Response from Management:
Thanks for dropping past last Saturday and then taking your time to post a review.
Your kind words are compliments are so greatly appreciated by all of us here and we love reading them.
As stated in my past review that making people feel welcome and have a great experience is esential for good service. No matter if it's dietry requirements or a birthday we always try our best to accomodate and make everyonee feel special.
The scallops are a favorite and having the pasta prepared here lets us make it the authentic way with real flavours.
The lamb from our farm both shoulder and loin are is prepared using simply the best lamb for your enjoyment.
The pannacotta is proving to be one of our all time favorites but next time you must try the semifredo with truffle honey (thats really special). We do agree that the restaurant does get busy and loud especially on Saturdays but this is unfortunately our little Cala Luna. The early clearing of your table i apologise for thats out of character and i will let all staff know that this is not the correct way.. thanks for letting us know!!

Cala Luna is one of my partner's and my favourite 'date night' spots. We love it. The service and intimacy of the place always makes us feel almost like we have our own little restaurant at home, so friendly and relaxed and always enough attention from the staff but not too much. The complimentary amuse bouche they generally offer is a nice touch (and it has always been vegetarian when we've been there too which is a plus for me!).
Irregular availability of great vegetarian options for mains is a shame but usually whatever's available is delish anyway and the downside re: vegetarian (normal for Sydney anyway in my experience, so is pretty well expected) is well over-compensated for by the whole lovely dining experience! We'll def be back.
Response from Management:
Firstly i would like to say thank you for taking the time to post a review it's appeciated.
That's it! We want you to feel like you are walking into our dining room because thats what it is! For breakfast lunch and dinner we only serve the best food at great value prices. The vegetarian options are always hard as we have tried to have a main course for vego's but it just doesn't sell, so we are happy to custom make you a dish when you drop by (your restaurant) Cala Luna. We are also happy to make the vego entrees larger portions, if that suits.
We pride ourselves on good efficient but warm service. Our family has been in the restaurant industry for over 45 years so we how crucial making everyone feel welcome is. See you next date!!
Thanks for your kind words and taking your time to post a review.
