Went for a drive to the blue mountains for a Mother's Day lunch, like most of Sydney. Decided on this cafe as it looked ok. Ordered burgers and coffee. 45 minutes later we have had coffee, but no food in sight. After noticing many people arriving after us all had food, I went and asked how long till our order was ready and was rudely told 2 minutes.
The waitress then proceded to run to our table and drop, I mean literally drop the 3 meals at the end of the table and hightailed it leaving us gobsmacked. It ruined what should have been a lovely day. My advice, try anywhere but here, others looks good compared to this.
Get in early if you can before the weekend trade clog up the brekky service. No complaints with a meal I had here recently. Basic food, done well that hits the spot. Great shakes.
Probably the rudest staff I have ever encountered. A large group of us asked if we could move 2 table together. The waitress snapped 'No!'. So a few of us moved to the next table, which we slightly swivelled so we could face the others. Again the waitress snapped at us for moving the table! She then proceeded to fling our food coffee and bill at us and even rudely bumped me! Unbelievable!
Great little mountains cafe with a nice rustic ambience. I go back for their 'deluxe' hot chocolate, the best hot chocky in the mountains. Their cajun chicken burger is good too.
Friendly place (unlike the fancier Italian one up the the street, which we had intended to go to but was too inflexible to move a table to accommodate 5 people, despite being half full at 8.30!). My Veal dish last week was a bit ordinary, but the other 3 had pasta, which was very good and great value. We're going back again tonight and will have pasta.
Please don't order the 'chicken avocado and cheese' sandwich as the chicken is processed from the supermarket. When I asked the waitress if we could order something else as the $9 sandwich isn't real chicken we were told that we still had to pay for it. It was also stated that 'customers like me were not welcome in a place like this'. Quite amusing but I will never go back and tell everyone I know what kind of establishment this place is.
It may have been a bad day when I came through but I did not enjoy my experience at this Cafe unlike previous posters. We came through Katoomba on our way back from a trip out west and decided to give it a go after reading previous reviews. We ordered a couple of coffees and sandwiches, the coffee was probably one of the worst I'd tasted in a while. The sandwich was ok.
The service was slow and the waitresses seemed more interested in chatting to each other and were quite loud. We felt uncomfortable and left shortly after. There are better cafes in the street and I recommend you try one of those.
Came here for lunch, the service was very very attentive and patient with us as we fuddled over the menu whilst deciding what to order. We ordered the nachos to start with whilst we decided on the rest. The Nachos were delcious and were consumed quickly however, they were not really authentic flavours rather sweet and a bit shy on the beans.
Then we ordered the fish cakes, bangers and mash, and pumpkin salad. Bangers were good, salad was ok but the fishcakes were woeful. Next time I am in the mountains I will probably come back here decent enough for me.
This place has great atmosphere! I went with 7 colleagues on a Saturday night and fortunately the staff accommodated us all on the 1 table which was great as they has to ask a couple to move. It then, however, took a while for the wait staff to take our orders. When it did come the food was old fashioned good food. Exactly what you want. The Specials are fine. Nothing flamboyant, simplistic and tastes like what you expect. BYO = always a great option.
When we were there one of the waitress set a serviette on fire with the table candle. The place lit up (scuze the pun). I like the down beat touch of the butcher paper and crayons on the tables, laid back chilled yet inspiring creativity. I wouldn't travel up from Sydney to make the effort just to come here BUT I would, however, visit if I were in Katoomba.
This is a cute little cafe. I had the beef and mushroom pie - it was nice, but needed something like a little chilli, to give it that extra kick. Nonetheless, the portions are generous and the meals inexpensive. I'd go back.
