Gorgeous view from the balcony but in winter, suggest bring sunglasses and suncream if you're there for a long lunch! We were even offered sunhats from the waitstaff! Can also be very windy and the canopy was a bit shaky throughout lunch.
Food beautifully presented. Seared scallop, mushroom and pancetta tart on a pea puree sauce was delicious, three large scallops on top. Duck confit with duck and prune ravioli on bed of sauteed cabbage OK. After two courses, I was stuffed! Dining companions also enjoyed their choices, esp the tempura zucchini flowers (2) filled with gorgonzola. Desserts looked fabulous.
Be prepared to be charged for sides, bread rolls, naan bread, mashed potatoes, fries, brocollini and beans, rocket and parmesan. If you were eating three courses, you'd be up for around $90pp plus drinks. Lucky it was a corporate lunch!
You pay for what you get here. The view is spectacular as is the food. Simple side dishes are as delicious as the mains and the wine menu. A must for anyone dining with interstate/international guests. The decor is beautiful and compliments the view without overtaking it perfectly.
Pleasantly surprised, the food was very good as was the service.
The food is rated an 8 here due to having to pay for your bread roll and the fact that you get exactly what you order. eg a rack of lamb is 2 cutlets without vegetables or garnishes (anything additional needs to be ordered as a side serve). Such an approach feels miserly. The desserts are excellent.
Ambience is a 7. Yes, the view is great but the venue is dark. I guess they save on electricity too. On the bright side, this would make a great first date venue! Would I recommend it? yes. Would I return? probably not.
A top setting it is, but pretty casual too. 2:15 hours is all you're allowed and as we got close to it the service sped up. The wine order took forever to arrive, as did the water. Wine menu is too congested, had to put a piece of paper across to make sure I didn't accidentally order a $100+ bottle, too many Shiraz Voigner's, etc.
Quail was ok with some nice charring mixing with the salad, tempura zuchini flowers look good but didn't really impress. Pork Belly was quite nice, but easy to achieve at home as a slow roast, lamb rack was actually lamb cutlets and was overpowered by the saltiness of it's bedding and too much garlic for mine. Go for the view, even better, go for business, don't expect great food.
Great service, friendly and efficient. Great atmosphere and great view. Food was good but felt the menu was safe, could be a bit more adventurous. We had a great night, loved it, will be going back.
Its all about the atmosphere here. Food is ok, and the value is decent considering the location. The service was a little too fake with too many attempts to up sell. I have dined in enough places all over the world to recognise the difference between a pushy waiter or the one that can up sell subtly.
Really pleasantly surprised. Been before a long time ago and wasn't overwhelmed at the time and had heard not such great things since but booked it this week because wanted to show off Sydney Harbour to out of town visitors.
Well this time the food was truly wonderful, had duck and foie gras terrine and venison for main, fantastic. The service was great, informal but efficient and very friendly. Wine selection was very good. For four people it was a bill of $600 for three courses each, wine and pre-dinner drinks, so quite good value given the location. Very enjoyable.
View, view and view. Went here for a birthday dinner recently and whilst the view was amazing and the food was good, the service was not as good as expected. Also, for the price the food could have been better, lacked the soul of some other places we have eaten. A great place for sunny lunch time.
Cafe Sydney simply has one of the best views in Sydney. Stylish modern fit-out, lots of timber, very very international without being too gauche. I love taking friends from out of town or international visitors, everyone I've ever taken here has been impressed. Negatives are that it's expensive and they stick you for extra's (bottled water, sides, surcharges etc) and that the food, whilst quite good, lacks the polish you would expect at a venue this impressive. Two notably mediocre meals were a mudcrab with no meat and a childishly amateur dessert plate.
