We went on a Sunday afternoon. There was a string quartet playing which was great. Took nearly 30 minutes for someone to appear and take a drink order although a nearby child had 4 waitstaff fussing over it's seating. 2 of the people from our table were late which seemed to really upset and irritate our waitress who constantly asked when they were arriving.
Grilled seafood platter advertised as containing Grilled Bugs (Moreton Bay or Balmain), however, the 2 we ordered contained prawns instead, yet no mention was made of this by our surly waitress. Funnily enough they were still happy to charge the full price. Every time wine was poured a large amount was tipped onto the table or one of us. Napkins placed on laps with such force by angry waitress an eye was almost taken out! It is a great venue, greatly let down by it's disappointing service.
I have eaten in Cafe Sydney on several occasions now over several years and it is consistently good. The menu is varied, the food lovely and the views to die for. Great for small groups and large. This last visit was in Sept and although our waitress was more of a sales person than a waitress we still had a wonderful time.
Booked two weeks in advance and still got only the worst outside seats! Food o.k. but not warm, service: we had 4 waiters, not professional, for the price and the venue very poor, we even left for having dessert down on the street.
Yes the view are spectacular with all the bright lights and the bridge and service is pleasant, however, I cannot say the meals justify the price. Leave this place for the tourists.
Alas if only the food and service were as good as the views this beautifully restaurant has to offer. For approx $100 per person I am sure they can do with more attentive and better service.
This a place for tourists to be impressed with a swanky fitout then have their dollars drained out of them for the most mediocre food and service I have experienced in many years. As a Sydney local I promise you can get much better than this.
I had heard back reviews about the service here, and, unfortunately, they were all true. We were rushed the whole way through the meal, only had time to have one course, before we were told to leave the table (earlier than they had originally told us we had it till.) I was in the middle of my main course when they tried to shove a dessert menu in front of me, pressurizing the whole time. This restaurant is a waste of it's beautiful position. Don't waste your time when there are so many other great restaurants out there.
I frequent this restaurant anytime I have a tourist friend. It has the best views, I don't know any restaurant that can beat it - at this price point. Unfortunately food has been bit hit and miss like most of view restaurants around the area, but it was pretty good the last time there is definitely an improvement. My lamb rack was juicy full of flavour and seafood platter was very simple but freshest seafood I had in town for a while.
Service was also very sincere and hospitable. Value is just Ok for around $100 per person only with one bottle of wine, I guess the view justifies it though.
Great restaurant. The ambience is excellent (great view). The food is good. But it is the service that is truly outstanding, even when the restaurant is busy!
