I have eaten here 3 times and everytime has been great. The food was excellent. My girlfriend is American and she knows her Mexican and this restaurant quickly became our most favourite Mexican in Sydney. The margaritas are also good and the ambience is fun, on one occasion when we were there all the staff suddenly went into celebration mode, playing mexican music and throwing streamers everywhere... really cool!
On one occasion the waiter did make a mistake with our orders, however, he brought us free magaritas to make up for it so all was forgiven! Negatives: Trying to find free parking around there can be a joke so you might have to pay for parking across the road (be careful as parking station closes before restaurant does on weeknights!).
The bill can also be a bit on the high side for mexican food, but then again what isn't expensive these days in Sydney?
I have been to Cafe Pacifico twice now. One with my partner and the other time in a group of 24 people. I enjoyed the dinner I had with my partner as we could choose what we liked from the menu, we had 2 main meals and 2 non-alcoholic drinks costing us $45 - good value. Food was reasonable and service was decent, however we were the only people at 7pm on a Wednesday. The menu has your average Mexican dishes (fajitas, tacos, burritos).
A couple weeks later we went for a friend’s birthday and was very disappointed paying $36 per person receiving complimentary corn chips with salsa (whoopee dooo - the serving was tiny!) and 3 entrees along with 1 main. I was very disappointed with the food and service in particular. The Chorizo Nachos were a joke. The sauce was stiff and cold when it arrived at our table, not much chorizo to be seen. The beef fajitas were more like capsicum and "see if you can find the beef" fajitas (felt so ripped-off).
All dishes were between 4 people, but as lance_to has calculated this really seems unfair for the cost. We asked the waiter for water 3 times and waited and waited, still waiting. Almost an hour passed where I started getting frustrated only then the water came out. Seems they want you to buy at the bar than drink their tap water. They weren't tentative, or caring.
The food overall was very greasy, a lot of sour cream and cheap cheese - they try filling you up on the thicker fatty items rather than the food itself. They were even stingy with the rice. We seriously - no joke, got rice in a little bowl about half a cup worth between 4 people. I didn't realise times were this tough!
The atmosphere is nice but cold in winter (no heating). It's pretty cool the way they've decorated the place with Mexican trinkets and alcohol advertising. Swish bar backdrop consists of various tequila bottles. I will never go to Cafe Pacifico for a group booking – ever, and if I really want a Mexican meal I'd rather eat elsewhere.
Had a few great birthdays here, the food is a little overpriced by I am more than happy to pay for such a great atmosphere! I wouldn't suggest getting set menu, just order of the menu on the night, the set does not work out much cheaper and there is more chance of it being pre-made if you order in advance. Love introducing friends to this place.
This place is the biggest joke out. How do they manage to keep this place running? I was there on Saturday with a group of 40 odd for a friend's birthday. We paid for the $33 set menu option. There was a "complimentary" small bowl of cornchips and salsa at the table. Which was enough for 1 person and was shared by four.
Next came the first entree, which was a guacomole dip and another small bowl of cornchips. We were out of cornchips in no time with plenty of dip just sitting there. There was no offer to get us more chips. Then came the second entree which is a single wedge of taco per person. This taco was nice but not enough. Then came the main - chicken fajitas. We didn't realise that four people were going to share what amounted to a main for two and nothing else after that.
Doing the sums, the first entree would be $10 at best, second entree $10 and the chicken fajitas maybe $30 at the absolute best. All up, $50 value for every four diners. But they collected $33 per person. $132 paid for $50 of food if you went somewhere else! I was still hungry and so was my girlfriend. What a joke. Some of the other girls in the group had to resort taking leftovers from another table to make more fajitas because they had run out of filling! Desperate times calls for desperate measures I guess.
What a great business these people are running. The magaritas and mojitoes were good, but the prices charged were a bit on the high side. Especially if you intend to do tequila shots. $70 jugs were outrageous! You have been warned...this place is designed to part you with your money and leaving you wondering what you got for it.
I was here with a group of 15 and we got the $33 (overpriced) package and definitely not worth it. There was no vegetarian option and I could have made the mains myself with a fajita kit from Coles! Will never go here again and waste my money!
We are from the U.S., and were sure this would be "fake" Mexican food, but we were shocked. The food was really good! My husband loved the chicken fajitas, which were very large and served appropriately with about 6 tortillas. I had the shredded beef chimichanga, it was really good. The salsa there was excellent, and so was the service. We were surprised about how much we liked the place with all of the mixed reviews.
The only complaints, the tortilla chips seemed a little stale, the fajitas tortillas a little soggy (not too bad), and the drinks were expensive and not as good as we make at home. We thought about going back tonight since we have missed Mexican food so much over the last year living in Sydney, probably this weekend!
Well I've just read the review beneath and I could almost just repeat it! We had a group of 8 and were put on the $33.00 function package. Credit where it is due the corn fritters were pretty good, but that's about where the good stopped. We too had ordered chicken fajitas for our main, but got a combination of beef and chicken, we also had to hunt through the piles of capsicum and onion on the plate to even find the meat!
I also agree with adelee that $70 for a jug of Margarita is ridiculous, the bar tender informed me that there were 9 shots in a jug, but I beg to disagree with that. I work in a bar and there is no way there was 9 shots in it! I'm reluctant to even comment on the service as there was nothing to comment on. Just a shame to have spent so much money there, when we could of done better with taco packs at home!
A very disappointing experience. I came here with a group of 20 for a birthday dinner. We had the $33 function package which consisted of a small entree, and then plain tasting fajitas for mains. We had ordered a mixture of vegetarian chicken and beef fajitas, so they just served up a concoction of capsicum, onion, beef and chicken mixed together on platters! The service was almost non existent. I was horrified to pay $70 for a jug of Margarita, served with a couple of glass tumblers! Looking forward to trying some authentic Mexican elsewhere.
I have been here twice now - the first time the food and service were ok enough to return for the second time. The second time made me never want to go back again. It was a Sunday night and quite a busy one as this place seems to be known for its party atmosphere but if you are there as a couple, no one really takes any notice of you.
The service was terrible, it took about 15minutes just to order drinks. We ordered what we had ordered the first time we had been there but we decided to share as the first time the meal was huge. We ordered the burrito with beef which is supposed to be a soft warmed tortilla but came out of the kitchen dry and crunchy with a burnt smell to it. I cut the food in half and noticed that the inside was pretty much hollow. The first time I had had this dish there was so much meat and salad inside that I didn't eat half of it and this time there was nothing in there and the food tasted burnt.
We got the staff to take the food back as it was not up to standards at all and we explained to her what was wrong with it and we weren't going to wait another half an hour for another meal so we would pay for our entree and leave. She went to the kitchen and when she returned did not bother to speak to us but went back to the counter.
We walked over to pay our bill and the staff said "the chef said there was nothing wrong with the food". I was absolutely amazed that she had just said this and I told her that if it was burnt and inedible with no substance to the food then there was something wrong with it and if we weren't happy with it then it wasn't ok. She said nothing, processed our bill and we left. We will never return to terrible service and disgusting food.
