The kitchen "forgot" my order and staff was least apologetic about making me wait to be served while everyone else on the table finished their meal. They offered to "not charge me for coffee" pretending it was extremely generous of them to offer this as compensation for me going without lunch! Am never going back for sure.
Wandered into Ottos off the street a little while ago, having not been there for a couple of years. Just like it was before, a pretty good eatery. Nothing to flash, good staples really. Will drop in again.
My partner suggested Otto's as we walked past (4 of us). I thought we had eaten there before and couldn't remember why, but was sure we didn't enjoy it. I was assured I was wrong. Got the menu and it looked a little pricey for some things, service was very good, then the food came out and I remembered we had been here before and why I didn't like it. Absolutely the worst food served in the smallest portions at the highest prices.
I had the Nachos which was really a dipping bowl and a scattering of corn chips, for which they were asking $17+. Then my partner was served the Gnocchi Gorgonzola, count them, 12 whole Gnocchi for $19. The best was the Shepherds Pie that came in a tiny bowl with some veggies on the side (frozen not fresh), $25.
I sent mine back and refused to pay. Others were unimpressed to say the least. The staff were very helpful but couldn't do much. Keep walking along Glebe Rd, there is better fare to be had.
Went to Cafe Otto because the restaurant we'd planned to go to was full, so hadn't read the reviews and didn't know what to expect. It was a very wet Friday night and the ambience was great (comfortable, cosy but not noisy inside), staff were welcoming and efficient. The food was very good. We had simple stuff, pizza and schnitzel and both were delicious and serving portions were generous.
They have a large menu, trying to cover all bases maybe but we were very happy with well executed meals. Everyone else seemed to be very much enjoying their meals too! Extremely good value with Ent card and byo. Will definitely return.
Visited this morning, having not read recent reviews (thankfully). Whilst our visit was for breakfast, couldn't fault any aspect of Cafe Otto's business. Waitress was pleasant and provided good service, the food was excellent and the location was perfect for a relaxing sunday morning. Contrary to recent reviews, we will be back, certainly for breakfast and in all likelihood to give the evening service a try as well.
I looked through the menu and thought it would be best to order the beef burger because along with pubs, cafes can do a great burger. This burger was the worst I've had. The beef pattie was dry, the bun was not even buttered let alone wiped with mayo or some tomato relish. There were 6 tiny dried up slices of onion, no moist caramelized onion here!
There was no love in it. This was a dry pile of food. Very disappointing. Don't visit the toilet as you will visit a dirty cellar downstairs with rooms full of junk on display. I was pleased there was not a fire and I needed to get out quickly! My best advice is to walk past Cafe Otto, its an overall shocker!
I come here alot as I live quite close and the food really varies, sometimes it will be great and other days you can order the same thing and it is quite mediocre. They always have friendly staff and are open everyday which is great, it is so hard to find good restaurants open on a Monday night. The menu is very broad, all round a pretty good place to eat.
I recently went to Ottos after nearly 6 months since my last meal there. I have been a regular over the years and I still very much enjoy dining there. The waitstaff can be slightly ignorant but they are about as good as you get in Australia these days. The food is always good, I love the little bar with the beer On Tap and I love the decor, especially in winter.
The courtyard is also lovely during summer. I happened to be one of the only tables on a wednesday night seeing as it took me nearly 5 minutes to locate the entrance through all the construction, I can sort of understand why....
I've been to Cafe Otto many times over the past 20 years or so and went there on Sunday evening for the first time in a while. Never again! The prices were ridiculous, $7.50 for wedges that would have been lucky to have been two small potatoes and a very small serve of nachos for $17.50! Spring roll at $3.80!
We just were hoping for a sandwich or light snack and there just wasn't enough choice on the menu at a reasonable price. No sandwiches were available in the evening, if I recall. Otto's always had been a pleasant and inexpensive place for a late snack, but I guess they have to pay for the renovations somehow. We won't be back.
Sad to say that what had been a great cafe for many years is no more.
