The roti here was delicious, perfectly made and served piping hot, the laksa and pad Thai were also great, and the sago pudding was exactly right.
The service was a let-down though, when I finished my main I waited ten minutes for the waitress to come over so I could order dessert, I also tried getting her attention but she sailed past me two or three times without noticing, finally I got up and went to the counter. The same thing happened when I wanted to pay, except that nobody was even at the counter, or visible from there, so I literally had to call out into the kitchen so someone would come and give me the bill. Ridiculous!
Great food, great staff, the service was fast! I just wish the down stairs place was a little bigger - as it gets kind of rowdy during their busy hours. But I haven't been upstairs - will do on my next visit. Worth the try!
We had a work function and had the banquet. Food came out cold, had to ask to reheat the teh tarik twice and at the end of the night when we received our bill, we were charged corkage but when this was not stated anywhere on the menu. We were also charged for 12 people and had 10. Two of our staff had gastro and could not make it last minute.
The owner said we had booked for 12 and they had cooked for 12, so we had to pay. Our meals only catered for 10 though. We argued that you pay for the number of people eating and the owner changed the price for 10, but did not take corkage off. I was disappointed all up with service, food etc.
This place is a real find, despite claiming to cover Chinese, Thai, Malay and Singaporean food, (normally a recipe for a bland mish mash of flavours, excelling in none) they actually do seem to do the different cuisines justice. We covered thai and Singaporean, as well as Malay and were impressed by all of them. It's my first visit but it has the feel of a place recently refurbished. Also benefits from being reasonably priced.
Love this place, it allows me to have the food that I enjoyed in Penang, Malaysia for the past 6 years. My partner is Malaysian and he also enjoys eating here. A real gem.
Love this gem in haymarket. Food is delicious, fresh, and affordable. Also, when you go with many people you can try so many dishes. Love the decor upstairs, very elegant.
