Winter makes this popular, great value eatery very noisy as it's too cold to sit outside. Portions are generous, food is excellent value, dearest main is a seafood platter for $20.50! Desserts are modest in choic, mud cake, baked ricotta or sticky date but include coffee at $8.00 which is hard to beat. Become a regular (I haven't yet changed address to here, but some weeks it seems like..) and the staff become sassy, which suits me!
I am a regular to this restaurant and I love it. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. The food is delicious and well priced. Everything on the menu is fabulous. Highly recommend this place but not for a romantic evening, best with a group of friends.
Cafe Jolly is always busy, so my partner and I decided to try it for breakfast. Food was really well priced and was really tasty. Have been back on a few occasions and have not been disappointed.
I am a regular at Cafe Jolly and the food is consistently good. The Penne Jolly is my favourite and the rack of lamb among the best I've ever tasted. The staff are delightful (but a little too run off their feet) and the value for money is incredible. Not suitable for a romantic date but perfect for a noisy girls night out.
I'm a local and can never understand why this place is always full. I've been a couple of times, always just to check that I didn't just have a bad experience. I went on my last visit as a family member said they'd had a nice meal. Well, I'm afraid my opinon of this place hasn't changed. The sandwiches aren't too bad, though the pasta is atrocious. The service is so rude and gruff. The coffee was barely drinkable.
Who said Chinese can’t cook Italian food? See who cooks in the kitchen in Bar Italia? Cafe Jolly is great place for a coffee and lunch, great risotto dishes and pretty good value, not like some over priced Italian owned cafe/restaurants in the area, quite busy on weekends.
Update: We went back around late December 07, the food is still great, and however the service is rushed. It’s like yup hi, what do you want to eat, here you go (very fast cook) then oh do you want anything else? Here’s the bill. Thanks. It’s still good but very busy. Better go on a quieter day.
We love Cafe Jolly, as I'm sure many others do too! Our only problem is that the food does not match the store ambience. If Cafe Jolly were to move to bigger premises, they would make a fortune. I've seen them have to turn down business every time I'm there!
This is an informal cafe but the food is of restaurant quality and size, no doubt that's why it is always packed. The food is absolutely amazing!!!! For the price (most mains are under $20) you get great food, the best value in Norton St. by far! The waiters are always friendly and are very hard working. Definitely worth a try, but I would recommend trying a lunch on a weekday so that it isn't as busy/noisy.
Definitely try the Filetto Pepper and my partner recommends the Spaghetti Marinara and the Seafood Platter. Would happily recommend this place to anybody. The food is worth the noise! A++
This place is fantastic for a cosy get together with friends or your partner. The service is exceptional, by far the friendliest I've had, even if you're not a regular. The food is gorgeous, very rich in flavour and delicious. Always very busy for dinner but well worth the wait for a relaxed and laid back meal. I can say with confidence one of the best places for value for money on Norton Street. Well done to the staff and chefs, my boyfriend and I absolutely love this place.
The service was good, the food pleasant, though a bit rich and heavy. The big drawback of this place is that, with a tiled floor and low ceiling, the noise is deafening. Even before it filled up with people, we were only able to talk with the next person. We screamed at each other all the way through dinner, and for this reason we will not go there again.
I love cafe jolly. I mainly go here just for coffee and cake at least twice a week, but I have also dined here too. It is not fine dining but the food is good, actually better than the majority of places in Leichhardt, and a lot of variety on the menu. The service is excellent. All the staff remember me when I go there and know what I like, which is great. And they are really friendly. I recommend this place, especially to locals.
