Wow! This is a real hole in the wall but the coffee is awesome and the food is well thought out. Josh and Ali really know how to combine flavours and execute unique Australian food. The soft shell crab and poached eggs on baby spinach is amazing, beautiful muffins and wonderful coffee. This food is inspirational. Definitely worth going for breakfast.
Was told about this place from a friend in NZ. Had nothing else to do so looked it up. The food was great, service friendly and relaxed. Josh and Ai made the dining experience very pleasant.
Well what can I say, 5 of us went into the cafe not sure what we were expecting. Josh offered to pick the meals for the entire table and it went from there. Fantastic service, great place, and more to the point exceptional food from an exceptional Chef. Well worth the experience even if you are not from around Surry Hills, it's a definite must.
Needless to say Mum was happy with her Mothers Day present. Australian Food and boy was it good.
Went there to try this cafe out on the weekend and it was surely worth the travel.
The owner, staff and chef were all extremely friendly and the menu was very unique with fusions of modern australian and japanese cuisine. We tried the crocodile sausages and a soporo pork wrap, both recommendable and the meals are served with condiments of different flavoured salts!
Their signature coffee, wattle maccacino was THE best coffee I've had in a longggg time and their home made desserts completed the meal beautifully. And thanks Josh for the rosellas! Will definitely be back.
Fantastic food, I loved the mushrooms in the Big-ish! Now, when it comes to coffee, I get really fussy and this place has got first class coffee served in stylish cups! Very friendly and personal atmosphere and fab service. Lov ya Josh!
Josh, we love what you are doing, but clean your kitchen and clean your restaurant and clean your floors. Clean, clean, clean baby. Get bigger premises, improve the heating/cooling and make more money.
Best coffee around and the home made micro biscuits provided gratis are a nice touch. Keep up the good work.
Sis lives close by and loves this place. Been to Cafe Ish 3 times and can see why! Mostly organic, and native Australian fare. Wattle coffee, speciality. The croc sausages are great. Josh changes the menu, seasonal, so you don't ever get bored. Still keeps the regulars happy. Even after a meal somewhere else, we're happy to go there for dessert. Speaking of which, they have a coconut and rose jelly thing happening which is DIVINE. Actually, try anything from the dessert menu. You won't regret it.
Friendly staff, always knowledgeable and topping up the cold water. This tiny place is a great find and a consistent player. Try this place before a line of punters becomes a familiar scene.
Cafe Ish coffee is the best. I've never been big on coffee during the day but I find it next to impossible to resist their coffee daily, lucky I work near by. Try the Hippy ham damper, OMG it's addictive! The staff are always friendly and up for a chat, gives the place a great relaxed feel. Keep up the good work, see you tomorrow for a coffee.
I went to the cafe last Saturday. Food was beautiful but I found 2 hairs in my bowl. I did not tell them but I did not eat all of them. And they were busy and lack of time to serve properly.
We've just discovered Ish, following excellent reports by local friends. We had the Japanese omelette (vegetable and prawns with excellent sauces), the ham and spinach eggs benedict, the house speciality coffee and pumpkin sourdough toast with wonderful lemon butter and jam. But it was hard to deny the allure of the croc sausages, and other fascinating items.
The staff were working incredibly hard and cheerfully, Josh obviously just loves food and cooking, and the barista was on fire with the coffee. The menu is all about an interesting, creative approach to fresh, high-quality ingredients. The best Sunday breakfast we've had anywhere.
