This place would go broke if it weren't for the prime location in Chatswood's busy shopping area. If its coffee you are after, head directly across the road to Three Beans Coffee. The cakes/cupcakes/slices at Andronicus are dry and hardened as they sit out the front of the cafe until someone buys one. It was very pricey. For $10 I received their eggy breakfast = one small slice of toast, 2 eggs, half of a very small roasted tomato. That was it! I ordered bacon as an extra for $3.
I am a modest eater and was still very hungry. Most cafes give you a decent sized big breakfast for $13. Ambience was bustling/trendy. Decor was dark polished timber floors and tables. It was very crowded on a Saturday morning. I would not return because it is very poor value for money.
It's the only place for coffee down that end of Victoria street. Good coffees of all kind. Past that I won't eat there. The pasta is not fresh but over cooked and the sauce tastes like Stromboli Jar pasta sauce. But somehow worse. Gnocchi was soggy. Apart from that there's one toilet which has mould all over the place. The kitchen floor didn't look much better. Hot chocolate with Baileys is very nice there.
I heartily agree that the only reason this place is busy is due to the fact that it opens until late. Although I am a semi-regular patron (always late at night when there is nowhere closer to go), I never order coffee here as it is always invariably burnt. The cakes are overpriced - I've seen the same cakes at other cafes for half the price - and they are a bit of a gamble as they sometimes arrive in a dried out, hardened state. The staff is very friendly at times and other times plain rude. The safest option is tea or hot chocolate.
The only good thing going for this place is the fact that it's open 24 hours. Food was okay. Service was okay. Price, however, was not. I've only been there twice. And that's because it was late at night.
Something which Australia does lack in are places (more specifically cafes) that stay open 24 hrs on weekends. I give this place 1 point for providing this option and it really can only be the reason why this 'cafe' still stands. Cafe's should be licensed on how well they make coffee. Nothing worse then wanting a great cup of coffee and being served hot, black, burnt water! I'm sorry to say, apart from the fancy name you won't get any good tasting coffee from here. It's really disappointing to see a 'cafe' with such a great location go to waste.
My partner and I choose to have a free coffee with cake offer after shopping but were a bit put off noticing the cakes were not covered, located near a busy traffic intersection. Coffee only average.
Okay only go to this place because it is conveniently located and is basically the few places still open late in the vicinity. The food is bad - I had a beef pie thing and it was exceptionally bad - no meat and watery sauce which was absolutely tasteless. The coffee was bad not hot at all and the service stale - don't go there and waste your money - it's overpriced - I don't mind paying money to eat but not when I can make bad coffee and food myself at the fraction of the cost.
Average food, average service, BAD coffee...great location and trading hours. That's all there is to it. If maybe places like Houlihans and Marcelo would open up later they would close down - because there really isn't anything special there. Oh except maybe one particularly cute waiter/barista.
Not only did I have to wait 15 minutes for my TAKE AWAY coffee but I also burnt my tongue because they burnt the milk and to make it worse they charged me an arm and a leg for it. The worst coffee and service I have ever had.
Food is ok but service can be at times horrible. Once sat in there (the only people there) and it took about 20 mins before they approached us to take our order. Overpriced too. Nice decor though.
