I'm not sure why clubs try to be anything more than clubs? This place has no soul and is quite expensive for a leagues club. After going there with big expectations, after the renovations, I was let down. (Funny, I saw the same old dinner lady working there from the old bistro, she looked so out-of-place).
A pretty good feed but the food usually takes its time for seemingly no particular reason. The actual food itself is good though and prices are reasonable. After you've had your meal, head on up to Cumbo or Sterlo's, or down to the gaming floor, home to more Asians than Dixon St. Drink prices at the bars are reasonable, get a couple of schooners into you, or alternatively if you're feeling skint you can always request a free soft drink/tea/coffee from the comfort of your poker machine chair.
Tahoe is the club's non-smoking gaming section, and also has its own bar and small cafe, offering sandwiches, foccacias, wraps, soup, fried foods, coffee, and milkshakes among others. If brenda serves you, ask her not to undercook your food for god's sake.
Overall, cafe 88 is an enjoyable and fairly cheap meal.
