Voted "Best Brasserie / Café 2005" by the Australian Hotels Association (NSW). Café Mix is a novel 208 seat all-day-dining restaurant: a light and bright dining environment with the focus very much on 'fresh'. Mixed aromas of freshly cooked cuisine from all corners of the globe are enhanced by the skills of Café Mix's chefs working their magic behind the cooking stations. The mouth-watering dessert selection and chocolate fountain are impossible to resist!

Came here for my quiet 40th birthday, Mum and my Gal.
We had the buffet selection. Nice fresh seafood and great dessert selection.
Always tend overeat when food is fresh. So was overly full by the end of the meal. My mum also gorged.
My Gal organised a small surprise, Foreign Order as a complement. Nice touch when the staff are so accommodating and it makes it all that extra special and memorable.

All in all, 'okay' but below par. We had the a la carte menu rather than buffet (which wasn't on night we dined) and it was far from delectable cuisine really. Not terrible, just not great. Not much thought put into presentation, temperature wasn't great, overpriced for what it is. Tasted 'okay'. The waiting staff were all smiles and (mostly) efficient (they forgot our salad bowl though, not a bad thing though, read on) so the drinks kept flowing nicely.
One thing I found amusing though was, upon asking for 1 side salad, "who is the salad for" "oh we will share it" "no you are not allowed to share, it is a buffet salad so if you both are to eat salad, you have to order 2" "If we see you both eating salad, we will charge you".
I personally felt it was verging on rude but received the kick under the table so let it be. They forgot to bring us the 1 salad plate anyway so not a concern. The table next to us got busted infact, the poor chap only had one bite and got stung with an extra salad. Quite amusing actually, they got told off!
I personally think you are better off going somewhere else and eating 3 course dinner with wine is $50/head and honestly, wonderful! We have dined there numerous times and it is a pleasure.

Really it was so disappointed. The seafood was like a week old and hot food did not have a lot of variety. And some of dishes were over cooked, like the potatoes you can not chew. The money is not worth it. The only thing that was Good was the chocolate cake and fruits! Definitely not going back.

If you don’t like seafood, I highly recommend not to go to Café Mix. This is only for seafood lover, other foods except for dessert are quite poor. There are bunch of fresh oysters, prawns, bugs and crabs. I think I had more than 20 of oysters. Oysters are quite ok, crabs and prawns are nice.
However, as I said their other foods like Indians and Chinese and Japanese are quite bad, probably better to get take away in the city. Dessert are quite good and great variety, I really liked chocolate fondue. I'm not sure it worth $75 but if you are seafood lover, might be worth to go once.

For the 75$ paid per person this is probably the worst value buffet in Sydney and certainly the poorest 5 star hotel buffet at that. I know this is not just my opinion as my friend went there with her family and thought it was equally as poor. The food is generally bland and the various stations were inefficient at delivering requests. The seafood was virtually non existent and although the dessert selection looked delectable it was pretty disappointing. The Intercontinental has a much better buffet.

Poor quality food and service. At close to seventy dollars for food you would expect better than your local takeaway chinese/indian meal. Spend a bit more and go upstairs to somewhere else for better food and service. Avoid at any cost.

After reading the reviews above, I was quite hesitant to try Cafe Mix for lunch. But after trying it, I've realized that the tough reviewers here probably considered themselves to be in the upper echelons of the "foodie chain"anyway.
For the "average foodie", I can honestly say that Cafe Mix is not that bad. Well, not bad at all, considering it's 40 bucks per person for lunch (without seafood) and you're guaranteed to be stuffed by the end of it. Only issue I had was that there wasn't any carving station. Only roast meat they had was roast beef and it was dry and didn't taste that fresh.
One thing though that I felt strongly about was the service. It was quite poor. The person who welcomed us in looked like she worked in the kitchen. Furthermore, the staff kept taking our plates away even when we weren't finished. Somehow they didn't make me feel like I was dining in a Shangri-la establishment.

Seafood selection was limited to prawns, crab and oysters, with a few pieces of rather unexciting sushi to top it off.

My boyfriend and I went for the buffet dinner on Monday night and the food variety was pretty poor.
Cold buffet: Oysters, prawns, crabs, 4 different types of salad, do-it-yourself caesar salad and sushi. Chinese: Fried noodles, fried rice, steamed fish and sweet and sour pork.
Western: Roast lamb, potatoes, mushrooms, crumbed calamari and steamed vegetables. Indian: Beef korma, pappadums, naan, black beans and basmati rice
Cheeseboard: Blue, Ash Goat's Cheese, Cheddar, Camembert, assorted dried fruit.
The prawns and oysters were alright but the crabs were not really fresh. Some hot dishes were overdone (roast lamb, potatoes and mushrooms, sweet and sour pork) and others tasted as though they were left on the display for ages (sushi and crumbed calamari). Even the crackers on the cheeseboard were chewy! The most exciting part about the buffet was the dessert section with the chocolate fountain but the other hot dishes were just alright. It might all be due to it being a Monday night but I was expecting more for the price.
