Martini Cafe is a mainstay of South King Street, offering great food for great value and the best coffee on South King Street. Seating inside means a daily dose of inspiration from owner Maritni, and sitting out the back in the massive courtyard is a chilled out paradise unto itself.

I have been coming here for over a year now, and the coffee is fantastic! The food is amazingly delicious too. Unfortunately, the service I received recently has ensured I will never return. Of the 3 of us seated at the table, 1 was completely ignored. His coffee did not come and we had to ask repeatedly for it. When we placed our breakfast orders, the waitress walked away after only taking 2 orders, so we called her back for the 3rd. This should have been an omen, as only cutlery for 2 was handed to our table, and only 2 breakfasts arrived. We had to ask twice before the 3rd breakfast arrived and it came well and truly after the first 2 had been devoured. Such a shame, I used to love this place.

I have been coming here for years and years and years. Martin, the owner is the perfect man for the job. Coffee is always great, superb place. Cannot recommend it highly enough, go there.

Regular patron here as I worked nearby. Always satisfied with the food and service, and on weekends it is so busy it can be difficult to get a seat for brunch! The coffee is consistently delicious, and has a wonderful depth of flavour and perfect crema. My favourite thing on the menu for either breakfast or lunch is the breakfast wrap, with bacon, eggs, spinach, feta and an incredible tomato relish on a light tortilla wrap. Delicious! The corn fritters with bacon, tomato and pesto are nice as well.

The ambience is bustling, packed out and can feel a little frantic at times, but I suppose they do the best they can with the long narrow layout of the cafe. When sitting inside, the constant banging out of the coffee grounds is very loud. Outside is more relaxing, but as another user suggested a screen to hide the dish washing area may make it a little more comfortable. Martini himself is certainly a character and makes sure I always leave with a smile on my face. A Newtown institution.

Have only been for breakfast. Great menu, lots to choose from. Nothing decadent or fancy, just simple. Great coffee. Service is really quick and most of the staff are lovely, although there's one waitress that never seems to smile. Back courtyard is awesome, although it would be great if they put a divider up between the walkway and the dishwashing area.
