We come here often for Sunday breakfast. It's always very nice, good selection and great views and coffee. Recommended!

Came for an early lunch (11.30am), only two other tables with diners. Wait staff were efficient, order taken promptly and table water arrived soon after. But the wait for the food to arrive took longer than expected. Given there were only 2 other tables, I would have expected food to arrive within 15-20 minutes of ordering. Granted we ordered 2 fish & chips which might have taken longer to prepare, perhaps? Food was tasty, hot and fresh, good serving size. Because of the delay, didn't have time to stay for coffee and dessert.

Yesterday I had lunch with friends at the cafe. We sat at table 26 and were all seated by 12.30pm. At about 1pm a waiter approached and asked if we wanted drinks. Most wanted jugs of water and other drinks, They came. Later I asked if we could order. My friend asked if a dish was hot and was told it wasn't when it came she couldn't eat it.

At 1.30 I told the waitress we had been waiting an hour. She came back and snapped "the computer says 20 minutes" Perhaps, the waiter took a long time to place the order. The jugs of water were not refilled. Staff too busy I guess. I paid and left at 2.30pm. All in all my two hours at the cafe was a "regrettable experience".

Couldn't really rate the food, as we walked out due to lack of service. As we walked in, one of the waiters invited us to sit anywhere, which we did. Some others came in after us, and the two waiters working in the area attended to them, not even looking in our direction. After fifteen minutes of being unable to get their attention, walked out and had a reasonable food by the water with a better view at Subway.

Friends and relatives enjoyed a 70th birthday lunch at cafe Birkenhead. The staff were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. We didn't want a fixed menu so all 22 of us chose something from the menu, and these were served efficiently and with a smile, even though we moved our places, all talked at once, and some people even forgot what they'd ordered. We brought our own birthday cake and wine, and were only charged corkage because of all the extra glasses and washing up. Everyone said the food was first rate, and they all loved the situation with a pleasant water view and the possibility of being together in a secluded part of the restaurant. Many said they will come again and/or recommend this cafe to their friends.

We came here for my Grandmother's 91st Birthday and they were so accommodating. Everytime we needed something they were there and the set up was beautiful with linen, table runners and they even printed us menu's. The food was great as well but so much of it, you certainly get your money worth! We will be back.

I was here with four of my friends on Sunday for brunch. After 30min had passed since ordering and no food arriving we were told 'the food comes out in the order it was put in'. But we saw tables around us, who ordered after us, receive their food. Eventually two meals came out and five minutes later the third then the forth.

We asked where the fifth meal, an omelette, was and we were told it was on its way. Another five minutes later we saw the table behind us, who were seated and ordered after we ordered, delivered an omelette. By this time one of the delivered meals were finished and another two were almost done.

The omelette was cancelled and as we finished our meals someone came over to apologise, telling us 'it happens'. We were offered coffee or juice, but by that time we had all had two coffees and just wanted to get out of there. We received the bill and there was no reduction in the price, or even a complimentary coffee for the person who sat watching the rest of us eat.

As we were paying we overheard someone else complaining, saying they waited over an hour and had asked twice for their meals. The cafe wasn't even full, so I'd hate to see how they would cope on a busy day.

Recently ate at Cafe Birkenhead whilst in the area. I was quite surprised at how nice the food was. Servings are generous and the Brazilian Beef Skewer is a must have. Sure the view isn't great given the location, but it makes the most of it's space to create a nice ambience.

Was quite busy and yet food came out quite promptly. Service was good as well.
Will be back when in area. Well priced too!
