My lasagne was really quite good which was a surprise, given all the reviews here. Lots of sauce, not too cheesy and slightly crusty edges. The herb pizza was delicious.
Thrillingly mediocre Italian at the Forum. It was a slow night, until a flock of pilgrims descended upon this place, and the service was actually pretty good. The food, well I had the calamari linguine, started off promisingly, although about halfway through there was a Hitchcock-esque twist, and it became shockingly, disgustingly oily! Also, their approach to pesto is a little perplexing. It was mostly just coarsely chopped basil and olive oil, with maybe a pine nut or two for show. It lacked cohesion.
First time to Leichardt and the Italian forum for that matter and what a disaster!
As a lot of people have commented, was drawn in by the charming personality at the door only to be let down.
Dining in a group of 8, a simple order of a jug of water couldn't even be conducted properly. The waiter brought out 6 glasses and a jug of water, filled the six, went back to get the other two but the jug was clearly empty by then and left the two other glasses. What type of service is that?! And all night no refills whatsoever.
Ambience was extremely poor, the cd track seemed to be on repeat playing the same two songs. Seating arrangements were also unacceptable that a lady with a pram had to bash her way through. Not only disturbing our dining experience but also inconsiderate of the restaurant.
Food was terrible to say the least. A $14.90 salad consisting of 7 slices of tomatoes and a minute chunk of bocconcini. If you work it out... $2 dollars for a slice of tomato definitely burns a hole in anyone's pocket and absolutely ridiculous.
A friend ordered the gnocchi only to look like a plate of yellow gunk and masked with an overwhelming load of parmesan cheese. I could complain about every dish but if there was a scale that went into the minus zone when rating value for money, I would have to check minus 10.
I'm surprised this restaurant is getting good ratings. I will never go back there and would never recommend it to anyone.
I am so appalled. I was so excited to finally go to Norton St, expecting a fabulous Italian meal. Little did I know how angry I was going to be as I left the restaurant. There were 8 of us at the table, we'd ordered, but it took so long for the meals to come out. And when they did, they were so very not impressive. The gnocchi was good, but it was a ridiculously small portion that could not feed an 8 year old.
Also, perhaps I was to blame for not knowing that a Caprese Salad was, when we ordered, the waiter warned us that it was a bit small, but we thought, hm oh well, we'll give it a shot, it's something new. We joked that each of us would receive a piece of lettuce each, little did we know how true this would be. The least they could have done was to suggest a better salad. It's not hard to see that a group of 20 year olds will not appreciate 7 slices of tomato and 2 pieces of cheese, drizzled in olive oil, salt and pepper, no greens! $14.90. I would not pay $1 for this.
I do not recall which pastas we ordered, but all of them were very very disappointing. We ordered about 4 plates of pasta which were in extremely unfulfilling portions and of no quality. Not only was the food tasteless, but the service was of a very low standard (rude). We were sitting there for a very long time without any food or drink. No water was served until very late, when only 6 of us received water, taking them another 10 or so minutes for the other two to receive a glass of water. The waiters made no effort to check if everything was ok, except finding some parmesan cheese for us, when we had requested not to get any cheese.
After reading the other reviews, I find that I had a very similar experience to that of 'yummyfood'. We too sat in that corridor area, with 4 tables pushed together. It wasn't even a busy night and they couldn't tend to us properly.
We had ordered a medium-rare, and received a medium-well. They can't follow instructions. I do not recommend anyone go here, you will be very disappointed.
Unfortunately, one of the worst meals I've ever had. I tried the veal and it was tough with cold, half-cooked vegetables. We sat near the kitchen and had to listen to people yelling in a foreign language throughout our meal. The TV was distracting, I don't think restaurants should have TVs in them. It was reasonably priced.
Not a bad place to go but I guess from previous reviews they could learn a bit more about customer service. We had lunch there on a Saturday and must say if it wasn't for a discount coupon it would be pretty pricey. They couldn't seem to do enough for us at lunch time and we did manage a table outside.
The friendly greeter does try to get people in but I think customers are starting to stay away from the Forum and Leichardt with the amount of empty restaurants. I don't think we would go to Caesars again given a choice as there seems to be a lot of other places to try. Coffee was good as was the canolli.
I have been here a number of times before, and once with my family. We went again for my brother's birthday and this will be the last time. May I just add that I went to Caesar's about 3 weeks before the night that I am writing about, wasn't too happy with our meals (with 2 friends) but thought it was a one off because have been very happy previously.
Firstly, there were 7 of us and we were sat in a table right in the corridor, people constantly pushing past us. If the restaurant was full I would understand why, but there was 4 tables that sat 7 or more available the whole time we were there.
Next, the service is horrible. I am a waitress and you need to read the people that are at a table. I arrived first with 2 others and then the rest of my family came about 10 minutes later.
Literally the second they sat down we were asked if we were ready to order! When we asked for water to begin with (I had bought 2 bottles of wine) they kept trying to push other drinks onto us. Throughout the night we kept requesting a jug of water and kept just getting our glasses filled (when we could get someone to do it for us!). We only had our glasses filled once and this was over 2 hours.
Couldn't the wait staff see that they were empty? Either they should have filled them, or if they thought they were finished with clear them at least. Our waiter kept coming up to us every 5 minutes to see if we were ready to order. Now, this may seem like good service but you could see we were all chatting. In the end I had to tell her (for the second time) that we will grab her when we are ready.
Next, the food. I was happy with my meal, meat ravioli with bol sauce, and my brother was happy with his pasta. However, the rest of the family was less than impressed. The steak that was ordered med-well was served med-rare, the fish special only had taste because lots of lemon and salt were added by my mum and my boyfriend pasta was swimming in oil.
Not once did they come to see how we were going with our food, and another note, if you are in the Italian Forum, you can at least have real Parmesan cheese, not the 'fake' stuff. Also, they cleared our plates as each person finished. Now, I know this isn't fine dining but there is basic courtesy and that is leaving all the plates until everyone finishes.
Then, while 2 of our table are still eating their mains they put dessert menu's down!! Please, it was like they were trying to turn the table over as fast as possible, even though they had plenty spare. I used to recommend this place to people, but after my last experience I definitely would not! Don't go!! There are heaps of better places in the Forum (and Leichhardt) to go!!
A few friends and I had decided to go to Caesars to celebrate my birthday and we were looking forward to a nice, relaxing night. Unfortunately, our night was the complete antithesis. We were firstly greeted by a rather friendly character that wasn't to remain friendly for much longer.
At the start of the night the service we received was fairly average which didn't bother us too much at the time but it only went downhill from here. We ordered some entrees and a bottle of wine which was lovely (this may have been due to the fact that Caesars did not make the bottle of wine). Next on the agenda were our main meals. We ordered three pasta dishes and a pizza. The meals looked okay until we dug our forks in.
We were surprised to find an additional object in one of our pasta dishes. At first we were confused until further perusal proved our suspicions. The object was in fact a cockroach. Our immediate reaction was one of pure disgust so we called our waitress over for an explanation. She saw the cockroach and apologised sincerely and took our meal away to show to the chef.
After consulting with the restaurant manager she came back and apologised to us once again and offered us a replacement meal. We found this to be an unacceptable resolution to this appalling letdown. We had all lost our appetites due to this atrocity and felt a more appropriate course of action would be a full refund for our main meals. We were happy to pay for our entrees and wine but felt that our main meals should not be included in the bill for the above reasons.
One of us decided to take this matter to the restaurant manager who showed no empathy and no respect for our situation and was very rude. He said that we are not leaving without paying for our main meals. Our friend came back feeling let down and frustrated with the outcome. Soon after, we were accosted by a security guard to enforce the request of the restaurant manager. He asked us if there was a problem to which we replied, and he answered that "it is not a perfect world". We felt that his action was to intimidate us, we soon discovered that we would not get anywhere with these people. We paid the bill in full minus the pasta dish containing the cockroach.
In the end, we felt that finding the cockroach in a meal was actually the least of our problems. The way the staff in particular, the restaurant manager handled our concerns was appalling. We were all disgusted with the way the evening had turned out and highly suggest people think twice before dining at Caesars.
Upon arrival at the plaza in Leichhardt we had barely made it down the stairs before being greeted by a wonderful friendly door man. Blessed with such prime location, he charmed us immediately and if our experience with Caesars had ended there this review would have been far more pleasant. The restaurant was quite full that afternoon, however, by the end of our meal we could only conclude it was because they too had been drawn in by the door man's charisma.
After being seated, our waitress attended to us rather promptly. Though short on most social skills her answers were points and her smiles more of a forced half lip curl. Perhaps, she knew what the outcome of our meal was going to be. We ordered a starter, the Olivetti, which was quite tasty and enjoyable. Our mains, however, left a lot to be desired. The pasta marinara was swimming in oil and the seafood which was minimal was not fresh and barely had any taste.
Oil and the same sauce for each dish seemed to be the theme of the day. The gnocchi was literally tasteless and each gnocchi ball appeared to be drowning haplessly in oil. Our helpful waitress sprinkled some chilli over the dish for us to watch in amusement as the little life rings of flavour and spice were also sucked under the oil and into an abyss of tasteless muck. The octopus salad whilst edible was, however, hardly anything to sing about with the octopus certainly not from a fresh catch.
Although our food was clearly untouched our extremely helpful waitresses only suggestion on how to make the food more edible was to "add more chilli". She then decided to be even more hospitable by offering to put our barely touched food into take away containers. The bill was expensive, the food barely touched and the three of us left wishing the charming man out front hadn't been so charming.
