I really like the food here. Just got takeaway soup, full of pork, squid and dumplings. Plus bean shoots in a separate container with a slice of lemon. Lovely.

It would have been nicer (for me) if there was no msg, but apparently that's automatically added to all their soup liquid before ordering, so no options there. I can feel the headache already!

Otherwise, I think it's one of the nicest restaurants for value and generous dishes in Marrickville.

I've been searching for a new Vietnamese fave since my old one in Hurstville (Dixon) was sold to new owners. I picked Bun Bo Hue Huong Giang after reading previous reviews.

We ordered the Vietnamese Pancake (think deep friend rice paper stuffed taco-like with bean sprouts, mint and meat), a Bun Thit Nuong (grilled pork vermicelli salad), a Pho Tai (Beef Pho) and a 3-Colour Drink.

Vietnamese Pancake: much better than the oily one we had at PHD on Illawarra Road the previous week.

Bun Thit Nuong: good, but not quite the same as Dixon's. Fish sauce lacked chilli so I added fresh chilli to the salad and tossed it with the generous offering of mint leaves (served separately).

Pho Tai: points given for the man-sized serving though the soup broth lacked in comparison to The Naughty Chef in Wynyard.

3-Colour Drink: not enough coconut milk in it (a bigger glass would've been better).

Service was quick and very friendly. The owner even apologised profusely for forgetting to bring back our tea flask after refilling it. We weren't fussed.
Overall, not bad, I’d go back again, but will continue searching…

Bought takeaway from here and it was very mediocre. They also overloaded the containers with rice at the expense of the more desirable and expensive ingredients. Definitely a disappointment. The fact that it was largely empty on a Saturday night when many other places were full was probably a warning sign that I should have heeded.

With a considerable Vietnamese menu, Hong Giang’s offering is very appealing. However, having set our minds on a Pho, we were delighted to find the genuine article in the heart of little Vietnam in Marrickville.

The friendly and attentive staff initially served us with complimentary tea – nice touch. The Chicken Pho I ate was substantial, served along side fresh sprouts. The clean green glass surfaced tables were stocked full of a large assortment of chili and which way, and other condiments, further adding flavor to an already great Pho.

Enjoyed the additional, but totally unnecessary verge spring rolls too. The Pho was enough for 2. My wife enjoyed her flat noodles with beef as well. $28.50 in total. Will be happy to return.

The crispy chicken is the clear winner here. Serving sizes are good and the restaurant presents itself well. The spicy beef noodles soup is a house specialty and worth ordering. Freshness of produce is very good and value unbeatable.

This is my favourite Marrickville Vietnamese and I go here regularly. I'm a broth freak and I love their soups. I think they are the best, their Pho a little more subtle than other places but fantastic I say. Bowls are Huge and yes, perhaps, $1 or $2 more than Illawarra Rd but well worth it (and larger servings than the other places, perhaps, unnecessarily so...). I have a Cambodian friend who reckons their Bun Bo Hue is the bomb (and she comes from Bankstown!).

Their vermicelli salads are awesome. Good range of herbs including perilla/ shiso which I love, not just yr average mint and lettuce. Food is really fresh and it's awesomely clean too, you don't ever get ratty bits of herbs/lettuce like you might in other places.

Crispy chicken is the best here (well fried, less greasy). Broken rice, caramelised cat-fish all good. I'm not the greatest fan of their more boring Chinese-y braise type dishes, but if you stick to the Vietnamese style dishes you are on a winner. The menu is extensive. I'm addicted to the 3 colour drink too, it's basically dessert. Yumbo.

Oh, service is awesome. I Love them. Sweet and humoured.

We ventured here despite the risk of roaches, (none sited!) very glad we did. The preivous reviews about the soups are spot on, everything was very tasty. and we promised oursleves the pancakes next time, saw them go past and they looked great! here's a hint, go early, the place was packed with people waiting outside by the time we left.

Two things set this place apart from other Vietnamese joints in Marrickville: service and set-up. If you are happy to sacrifice comfort and friendliness for, perhaps, a wee bit of flavour, head to one of the pho steads on Illawarra Rd...otherwise go no further.

The food here is fine, generally. Serving sizes can be enormous (particularly the noodle soups, one between two should do), and there are some reliably good dishes (pork and school prawns, bun cha). The service is always great, and the set up a damn sight better than many of the other restaurants further down the strip that have fairly similar food on offer. Give it a go.
