Not as good at is use to be. Very disappointed with the salt and pepper calamari too many legs and not spicy at all. Just wasn't as tasty as many other Yum Cha's which was a shame. Very slow with the carts, we were there for over 45 minutes and it wasn't until were leaving that they borough out the spring roll and combination dumplings. The staff are lovely and they are great with kids. Price is reasonable we had 6 or 7 dishes 5 non alcoholic drinks and it cost just under $60. Won’t rush back but probably would go again in the future.

A great yum cha with delicious food. The trolleys came around regularly and always with hot food. The value was great. The thing is it gets a bit noisy because it's so popular. Great for lunch.

The service for Yum Cha is always good here, usually we've hardly sat down and someone will take our drinks order. The girls are willing to explain each dish and the food is alway hot and delicious. I would recommend the Mango pancakes, you will have dreams about them!

Great yum cha! We stumbled across to this cosy Chinese restaraunt after a few drinks at Brooky Hotel and the fun continued with the entertaining karaoke. Loved the salt and pepper calamari. Service was good and very accommodating. Great place to end the night.

Went there last night, service was awful. One hour to be served the entree food and then we were told after booking and ordering a simple banquet they were too busy! Customers who arrived later got served before us. I don't know what was worse, the service or the dreadful karaoke muzak or the 1960s decor. I wouldn't send my woorse enemy to this place!

Service was terrible, girls go the same route everytime they leave the kitchen and if you are not in their path, forget it. Had to chase the trolleys to get feed. Grubby looking decor.

The service was appalling, except the food was delicious as well as the dessert - best mango pancake! The back of the restaurant is very dirty, a bit worrying though. Value is cheaper compared to other yum cha's. All though I'm quite concerned is the restaurant's hygiene.

We've been to Brookvale Chinese about three times now and each time it's been a great experience. We're big Manly fans and stumbled upon the restaurant one Friday night after a game. I'm not sure if it was the smell of the food or the sound the of karaoke machine that drew us in but I'm glad we went.

Dishes we've tried include salt and pepper prawns which were big, juicy fat prawns coated in a tempura like batter speckled with salt and pepper and sprinkled with chilli. Other dishes we've tried inlcude combination omelette which came to our table as a big stack of tasy egg mixed with an array of meats including beef, bbq pork, prawns, vegies and a nice and not too salty Chinese-style gravy.

Another dish we've tried is the sizzling fillet steak which the waiter actually makes for you on the table by bringing out the sizzle pan and dropping the ingredients on it in front of you. It's nice to sit back and smell the delicious food cooking in front of you.

My husband and I eat out quite a bit, we love yum cha and Asian style food, and when we're in Sydney often frequent Chinatown for a feed but when we're in Manly/Brookvale for the footy Brookvale Chinese has been a good option and we'll keep on going. The karaoke and the drunks late on Friday nights at the restaurant only add to the atmosphere.

We only get steamed food at yum cha so can only review that. The food is pretty good. We come here when we want yum cha and little time to head to Chinatown. It's not a place renowned for its decor but for a quick lunch I don't care. The service is a little wishy-washy. It's interesting to see that the management can track his staff individually. Bit weird.

Update: We went yesterday for lunch and had yum cha I found a maggot, yes a maggot, in the food. They were good about it and we didn't have to pay but I won't be back. I only found 1 and I know its mates are still in their kitchen. Yuck.

Brookvale Chinese has improved out of site with their Yum Cha, a great assortment of dishes, steamed, fried and all with fresh clean flavours of the Chinese culinary, the dish that caught my taste buds was the soft shell crab dish, a unique flavour, lovely and crisp, don't forget the chicken feet they are divine. Don't waste your time going into the City or Chatswood, stop at Brookvale save time and money and enjoy the delightful food.
