What can I say, very ordinary food, shocking service, very rude and excruitiatingly slow. Tables cramped together so that I was constantly bumping backs with the person behind me. Awful coffee. Won't be back!
Been there once. The food was great but had to wait 1 hour for it. A strange fact was that two ladies arrived after us, got a better sitting place, and were served quicker. The spoons and forks were very dirty and with smell of eggs, asked to change it and came cleaner but again with the same smell. I think it's a place worth going, but prepare to wait and receive awful service.
The food was great, but, otherwise, I was not impressed by this place. It has taken three bad experiences for me to finally write this review. Everytime I come here I have to wait. Wait for a table, wait for service, wait an excruciatingly long time for food, wait to even pay the bill (when I'm practically waving money in their faces).
I found the senior staff to be rude and patronising when I complained about the constant waiting. She made me feel as though I were putting her out. When my food finally did arrive it was good but a small portion size which I did not feel was good value for money. I will not be going back there and do not recommend this cafe to anybody who expects to have their meal in front of them within an hour of being seated.
Before everyone found out about big brekky it was my favourite breakfast joint. Even now, when you have to make a booking (for breakfast!) I will still make the trek for Nim to cook me the best omelette I have ever had or to get my fix of her banana chutney.
Change of menu/cook. The food used to be so good here, no more BLT! And the big breakfast is, unfortunately, not even yummy. Bear in mind, I did go there twice since the change to be sure as I loved this place, especially the outdoor area which catered for kids as there is an abundance of toys to keep them entertained. I don't think I'll be coming back for a while.
We arrived at the Big Brekky sunday morning a little worse for wear looking for a hangover cure on a plate and in a mug, thats exactly what we got. There was a bit of a wait but hey when its busy, its busy, the coffee was excellent and the food was great no complaints will definitely be coming back!
Over priced and over rated. Very bad service. Had to ask where our coffee was after 20 minutes and waited an hour for our breakfast. Food was served under seasoned, under cooked and lukewarm. Was charged extra for a side dish when I asked if it could be substituted with the eggs in the main meal. How this place got it's good reviews is beyond me. Won't be returning with so many other options for breakfast in the inner-west.
Has there been a change in management? Although the person providing the waiting tickets at the door appeared to be the same. Service has never been the highlight of this place but I once boasted about their interesting breakfast menu and large servings that I've recommended so many friends as a definite breakfast hang-out.
This thought has now somewhat changed. Recently been back to the joint and service hasn't improved nor went backwards but the food and coffee had shrunken in size. The hot chocolate were once served in a big mug, now in a capuccino cup.
So has the cost cutting of it's food compensated for the refurbishment?
We love brekky, it has slowly become our favourite in the inner west followed closely by bitton in erskineville. The Big brekky menu is fresh generous and innovative at the same time. The coffee is fabulous but if you don't like strong coffee remember to ask for weak. The service is lovely, we have only been there a dozen times over the last six months but they all smile us in and there is always a table. New ownership hasn't changed the timber and beat of this drum but I hear we can be expecting additions to the menu soon! I would easily recommend this cafe.
The Big Brekky certainly lives up to its name. I live in the area but don't get to this place that often, mainly because I'm one of those weirdos who are up and out the door on the weekend well before 9am, which is when this cafe opens its doors.
My eggs benedict were huge and delicious. Rustic, chunky bacon rashers hidden under a mountain of fresh English spinach and then topped with a not-too-tangy hollandaise sauce. I had to come back home and lie down after brekky as I couldn't walk - it was so big. The coffee's great but I encourage you not to order a large coffee as it is so large it may as well come in a bucket.
Everybody who works there is gorgeous but not in a razmataz kind of way, so if it's really busy I advise to just relax and enjoy the view.
